Penha Longa Mercatto — Restaurant in Sintra

Got ripped off by Beatriz Vicente.

We were there to play golf. There was nothing open to eat but the PL Mercatto. We were surprised that they would not even have a cafe to serve players with morning tee times.

Beatriz said we could order a la carte so we could make our tee time at 8:40am. I ordered the avocado toast and the tortilla with egg. Both were less than single serving (I.e. VERY SMALL PORTIONS) and took thirty minutes. Then Beatriz charges me €81 for two Breakfast Buffet. We questioned the charge and she said “I told you it was only buffet”. I challenged her again and she said, “I told you so.”

However, the entire time we sat there (thirty minutes!) she did not inquire as to how we are doing nor why we waited so long without eating. How can any place charge two buffet charges and see that we did not partake at all… not even walk by it nor our eyes on it. I am furious at the scammer. She did not even ask why we did not go to the buffet (if she really told us so).

Leaves a horrible taste and perception of the people in Portugal. They should not do that to visitors because in all the other cities we have visited in Portugal, I never once felt cheated… always welcomed by friendly Portuguese.

Excellent dining experience in a great location. This is an Italian restaurant. The menu appears quite ordinary in appearance. We have all eaten a tomato burrata salad. But this place was off the charts. First the burrata was imported, too quality. Second, the fermented cherry tomatoes where the best tomatoes I have ever eaten. Texturally cooked without heat with that pungent agra dulce taste that is so pleasing topped with shaved balsamic vinegar and a rustic artesonal croutons. Phenominal. The short rib lasagna was packed with umami taste profile with rich indulgence. We finished with a classic pepperoni pizza. Nothing short of perfect. The dough, the cook, the taste and balance was like sitting in Naples. The cocktail and wine menu will please any visitor. Compliments to Chef Robson, hope we meet again. This is a fantastic restaurant and a must-go especially for dinner if you are staying at the resort. The ambience, environment and pacing is perfect before winding down to a good night's sleep. I highly recommend the Truffle and Mushroom risotto as it is the best I have ever tasted, along with the apple dessert that came with a lovely theatrical surprise for the customer.

I would like to bring recognition to Kkchitij's amazing service, he showed deep detailed food and product knowledge and provided a world class presentation .
