We could not wish for a better view! When we got there, the outside door was closed so we thought they were closed that day (although the sign said they are open everyday). So I called them and with 3 out of 10 Portuguese words that I know of, I asked them if they were open, and the lady confirmed they were (cue the happy song)! We sat down under the tree, and we were already happy. We got the shrimps to start with and there is a high chance this will be my starter as well as entree the next time... It was very unique, I really liked the sweet sauce that comes with it (I thought it was a pepper jam). We ordered the 2 fish dishes in the menu for the main course, they were OK. I had a hard time with the bones. However, the potatoes that came with it were surprisingly tasty. We also ordered the pear with port as dessert and it was delicious, a great option for a light dessert. When we were there, there were 2 other tables of tourists besides us, none of us could speak Portuguese but we all got by. The menu was in English, which was very helpful.

It's easy to drive by this restaurant without ever seeing it. The curve in the road has a gravel parking lot that appears to be for a small grassy patch and a view. Look more closely and you'll see it's the roof of the restaurant, complete with sky lights and vents in that grass. Make your way down the stairs to the right and the restaurant is very apparent (or a gravel walk to the left on the other side of the trees). The deck is gorgeous, the staff is courteous, and the food is delicious. We skipped the hors d'oeuvres in favor of the roasted fruit and have no regrets. Everything was incredible and the view was to die for. Cannot recommend enough! As an added bonus, wild ponies and neighborhood dogs were playing nearby.

O Abocanhado is a wonderfully designed place. The interior is amazing from the chairs to the fire place. We decided to visit this restaurant on a rainy and foggy winter day which probably defeats the purpose, but I must say it has its charm, it feels very mystical. The food was simple but very tasty. We had the blood sausage with apple sauce which was very pleasant and then we had the grilled sirloin also very tasty. The service is just amazing, old school super professional which is so hard to find these days. Overall a great experience that I’m sure would have been even better if it was a sunny and warm day. Thank you!

What a gem of a find! Apparently you have to be local to know this place even exists, but we stumbled upon it on our road trip through the area. Beautiful views to be had, especially for dinner service. It is upscale, a tablecloth affair, but not quite fine dining. It is expensive by Portuguese standards, but for the view and selection there in the middle of nowhere, including a great craft beer and wine selection, it is worth it. Portions are huge -- I had the veal which was lovely, and my sister had a fish dish that she didn't even come close to finishing (takeaway was possible, yay). Nobody here speaks English and it seems they expect reservations (they accepted us walk-in, though, as it wasn't full), but the menus have English and we made it work. Worth a visit if for nothing other...
