Taberna do Carró — Restaurant in Torre de Moncorvo

Tried this place today and went there because of the reviews. It was disappointing! Firstly cold customer service by a lady who I believe is the chef. Secondly, the price of €25 per person isn’t justifiable for what you eat: started eggs, cheese and chorizo, bread. I know how restaurant in Portugal are and with that you get a much better meal with better option on desserts which this place had none. Thirdly, the fruit option as desserts doesn’t justify paying €25 you buy that on an mini market next doors for €1 or less. The most outrageous thing was being charged €10 for a toddler who barely ate and was nibbling from our meal. The lady who I believe was the cook kept as well on calling my son a girl when on multiple occasions We corrected her that he was a boy( it may sound picky, but we even told her the story that he was born with a head full of hair — to which she ignored and kept on calling him her , making him uncomfortable ). A foreigner couple entered the Tasca and the same lady greeting was very cold too approaching them to ask what if they would like seat or what. The meal was meat with sort of French fries. It is a good meat I must say. However the potatoes were so oily as well as a salad( tomato only ) sunk in olive oil. The dessert is the Portuguese “Leite creme” not the best and one can choose either that or fruit ( grape, melon or fig ) just one not all. I do not recommend this place. We ate here quite early on Sunday evening. We were greeted by the owner who explained there was menu just a set meal. We were hungry and there were very few options open. We were not disappointed... we started with cheese and cold sausage platter with a tray of the most uncscious sweet tomatoes and bread. Pitchers of house red and white were brought along with a bottle water. The next course was a local spiced sausage which went down equally well, followed by the main course which was a platter of beautifully cooked steak and crispy fried potatoes ... the owner came out and asked did we want more meat... we had to decline as the initial offering was plentiful. The meal was rounded off with an almond dessert and coffee, we were offered liqueurs too. All this sat outside on the decking in a stunning old square by a fountain and lovely old church. Great relaxed service, really good food all for 30 euros a head. Definitely...

Correu mesmo muito mal.... Tudo ... Muito fraco.... Muitíssimo caro, um almoço de quase 80€ para comer... Quase nada. ... Enquanto o patrão almoça confortavelmente com um amigo na mesa logo na entrada, mesa grande para umas 6 pessoas enquanto nós, um casal com reserva feita por telefone e por recomendação de pessoas que são/eram clientes habituais, nos sentaram ao fundo, ao cimo de uns degraus, na passagem para as casas de banho... Ora que interessante, a empregada a correr de um lado para o outro, o patrão "à Patrão", sentado a almoçar durante o horário de trabalho e a ocupar uma mesa enorme e bem posicionada enquanto o casal que telefonou a reservar fica "nos fundos" a levar com o trânsito do W.C.... Tempos de espera exageradissimos, por vezes cerca de 20/30 minutos entre cada prato/coisa, e ainda por cima várias das coisas que habitualmente servem (foi-nos dito e já confirmámos por fotos da NET) a nós não foram servidas... Tendo em conta que é daqueles sítios em que não há ementa porque fazem uma sequência de pratos e por esse factor serem conhecidos, NUNCA pode haver alterações nem nos pratos, nem na sequência, nem na qualidade e muito menos demoras, ainda para mais quando se trata de uma reserva.... A Vitela, um pedaço bom enquanto o outro pedaço era fibroso e rijo.. pedimos mal passada, obviamente, mas já vinha "médio-mais".... Não nos trouxeram o tabuleiro de sobremesas tal como seria de esperar.. foi-nos transmitido o que havia e tivemos de esticar o pescoço para ver...... Carta de vinhos muito cara e pouco digna para as gentes do Douro e dos Vinhos que tanto contribuíram e contribuem para o desenvolvimento da região e sem os quais não teriam clientes de tão longe e em tanta qualidade. Extremamente caros, pouca variedade, pouca diversidade, pouco equilíbrio de preços e sem qualquer estrutura pensada, não explora a riqueza das castas nem a "Vinidiversidade" da região, não tem um mínimo texto sobre os mesmos e, tendenciosa, focada em duas ou 3 gamas de amizades, parece-me.... Provei o vinho da casa e não gostei. Preço desajustado (novamente) e sem corpo nem estrutura, vinho de laboratório, NADA adequado ao tipo de gastronomia que (supostamente, porque não vi nem pude comer) se propõe.... No fim dá cá quase 80€ de um almoço em que passámos fome e para comer tomate cru, azeitonas, omelete de espargos e Vitela.... Vai lá vai.... E para terminar, como eu já esperava... O multibanco não estava disponível.... Falha de internet...... Pois.... Desilusão total, foram-me ao bolso, trataram com desprezo, mal, nada calorosos nem atenciosos... Quanto á funcionária, só posso dizer que nunca parou de trabalhar e sempre de sorriso, mas visivelmente sob stress e a correr de mais pela sala, mas nada...
