Foreign pilgrims beware: If you don’t speak Portuguese be extra careful when ordering.

My experience: We were greeted by a waiter holding a phone with google translate showing meet or fish, I asked if it is for pilgrims they said yes. Later they gave us appetizers we didn’t order and said you’ll like it. In the end the food was 27€ (main course), 4€ (appetizers nobody ordered) and drinks were billed separately.

(Added) After the reply of the owner I would add that it is the responsibility of the restaurant to state their prices clearly. We were not even given any menu. The waitress put things on the table we didn’t order. A pilgrims menu normally costs ca. 10€ including drinks on the coast. We left over 40€ for two people. You either do not know what a pilgrim menu is or did not want to clarify. If people want to understand each other they normally find a way.

In his response the owner puts the blame on me and “foreigners”. I’ve had pilgrims menus in local places before and had no problems communicating. I can take the responsibility on my part and from now on I will be double careful and ask about everything twice. But you sir should also do something to improve service to “foreigners” if you want...

Great experience at Picanha. Despite language barrier, the staff was always checking what I needed thru his phone translator, before I ask. I was served a freshly squeezed orange juice and a yummy rich tasting legume soup. Ordered cod and chips, and boy what a huge serving (i could only eat half for lunch and kept the other half as take-out for dinner). Main was accompanied by a delicious black bean soup and cassava-based savoury crispy bits that went well with the oily fresh cod fried in thin batter, with olive and caramelized onion toppings. The potato chips were freshly sliced and excellently fried, tasty but not oily. A carafe of crisp white wine and later a little espresso to end this sumptuous lunch (I had to decline dessert unfortunately as I was so full). Amd not to forget, the staff also offered lightly charred pineapple slices to freshen the palate and an exquisite...

Along the Camino we came in super hungry and ready for anything. What we got was an unexpectedly kind welcome from the owner and an amazing lunch of fish, steak, and lots of Brazilian side dishes. Kids loved the tv playing Samba videos.
