Sabor a Lenha — Restaurant in Vila do Conde

The food was delicious - 5 stars. But minus four stars for attempting to swindle the foreigners. We ordered two chicken meals. The owner brought out one and said that it was "finished". That was fine with us because we had a big late lunch. After we were done, the owner asked if we wanted fish to take place of the other chicken plate. We said no thank you, we were fine with the one plate of chicken. He then asked if we would like dessert - it would be his hospitality and if we didn't like it, no problem. Why not? He brought out two plates - again, delicious, and then we asked for the check. Oddly, he had charged us for one dessert and two chicken plates (total = 18.50€.) When we asked him to clarify this, he said that he didn't charge us for our water and dessert. That's fine that you charge us for what we ate, but we only received one chicken plate. He went back to give us our corrected check, now including two waters and two desserts, for a total of 15€. Not sure why he thought we would overlook the charge of an entire plate we didn't get for some "free" water. Up to that point the owner had been very smiley and friendly and we were having a great time, but suddenly he became short with us and a little cold. It was one of the best dinner experiences that I had the pleasure to have. From the moment you é ter you feel warmth and good vibes. You have the normal dishes and the specials of the day, we had picanha and it was just perfect! The emplyees could not be more friendly and deserve a good tip. What really made it so special for me is the "secret dessert" that they serve on a pot and soup dishes, it made me remember my childhood because it was exactly what my grandparents used to make me when I went to visit them, and guess what, the owner called it "papa de avó" since it was from their grandparents that he learnt it from. We ordered two chicken but got one dish since they ran out of chicken. The food was good and the waiter asked us to try their desert and provided two tiny pieces of desert which was also good. The bill we got showed two chickens and one desert. We told him that we got only one chicken. He said that he did not charge two waters as if they offset each other. New bill showed one chicken, two waters and two deserts. Looks like the first bill was not a mistake and could have been intentional. We had a very good food but pretty bad...
