What a nice surprise ! We went to this restaurant a bit by chance. Mostly because it was not far from where we wanted to do our groceries shopping. We ended up going shopping much later than what we thought. It's small but with a good choice of dishes including a nice selection of petiscos (starters). We had, for two persons, the sopa de peixe (fish soup), the sande de leitão (pigglet sandwich), the medalhões de alheira (small cake of alheira, a traditional Portuguese sausage) and mexilhãoes a gallega (mussel with pepper, onions and spices). Everything was very good, the fish in the sopa de peixe was fresh. The base for the soup was probably a seafood broth which made the soup very tasty. It had a few leaves of coriander that really lightened the dishes without overpowering it. We loved it. The mussels were very fresh, not too cooked (like we like them) the sauce was spicy but not too much. The alheira was home made and delicious. The leitão in the sandwich was perfectly tender, the bread was very good and fresh it had a touch of the peppery sauce that is so crucial to leitão. It's the best sande de leitão that I have had. I really want to come back to taste the leitão alone (outside of the sandwich). Finally to finish, we got a pastel de Tentúgal with the coffees that was amazing. The owner(?)/waiter was perfect: friendly, attentive. The bottle of white wine that he chose for us was very good and not too expensive. Overall, for two, we paid a bit less than 40€, a very good quality price ratio. It was a very pleasant moment. I warmly recommend and we will come back !

Our visit to Bairra was one of those dining incidents that transcends a typical meal Into a complete experience. The owner & Chef, Pedro welcomed us warmly and after a few questions crafted a lunch experience that not only addressed our dietary constraints but somehow still managed to make the more demanding eaters (me) delighted by the range of flavors and quality of ingredients. Topped off with a delicious wine, also selected by our host, and engaging conversation, the visit was simply delightful. We can’t wait to go back and will certainly send all our friends as well. Well worth the detour from the beaten path!

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a meal at this delightful restaurant, and it was undoubtedly made with love. Every dish exuded a sense of passion and care that elevated the dining experience. The flavors were harmoniously balanced, and each bite felt like a warm embrace. The attention to detail in presentation and the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients showcased Pedro’s dedication. This dining experience was a true testament to the power of cooking with love, leaving a lasting impression of culinary delight.

Caro Pedro,

Apenas me disse que servia no mínimo duas pessoas. Os seus argumentos, permita-me, não subscrevo. A questão do desperdício. O valor a pagar. Permita-me, apenas, lamentar.

In the middle of quite an unsignificant part of Porto, far away from all tourist attractions, lies this safe haven of hospitality. And what a fantastic spot to have something to eat.

The owner welcomes you with much enthusiasm into his cosy restaurant. It really doesn't feel as a restaurant to be honest as most restaurants see you as a business opportunity and repeat the same procedure with every customer. Here you feel more like you are visiting an old friend's home, who is cooking from his open kitchen, chatting with his guests and is actually driven to give you the food you need.

He improvised a diner as we were looking for something less meaty and with a little more vegetables than his usual dishes. It became a simple yet comforting and delicious dish with a great attention to the combination of ingredients and flavours. All served with a good laugh and great stories.

We would certainly recommend anyone looking for a genuine food experience to...
