Grand Beach Club — Restaurant in Vila Real de Santo António

I have been coming to the hotel and beach club since it 1st opened Just recently I have found it hard to have a nice meal. I came again this week I had a Catapalana which had no taste and the fish had not been scaled properly but I put it down as a one off. Then came back a few days later and ordered a Vongole. Well, never tasted anything so bland in my life. Complained and although I have eaten this dish many time in Italy (and knowing how it should be cooked) I was informed the chef said they had cooked it correctly, this was not at all the truth as clams tasteless raw tomatoes no flavour. I was unable to have an alternative as the kitchen had closed and the chef had left the building. I have ended up with no lunch at all apart from my Ceviche stater which was fabulous. The other staff have been left speechless by the chefs actions and attitude . Such a shame as I have eaten here for a good few years and seen the restaurant full at weekends but now know why it no longer is so busy Shame the last chef left as she could cook excellently. I don’t like leaving bad reviews but I have visited grand beach club on several occasions and the views are amazing, I’ve eaten there every time, it is a little pricey but worth it for the ambiance, I just went in to eat and relax again like I always do when I visit my parents, they only have a few tables outside some in the shade and 3 bench tables in the sun and tables inside , the few tables in the shade were taken so I sat on one of the bench tables as I have done before TWICE !!! I was given a menu and ordered a Coke Zero while looking at the menu and sat relaxing I was told that I can’t sit there and eat, I said I have sat here before and eaten why can’t I now, they said they have orders that no one can eat on the bench tables, I was like it’s a beautiful day why can’t people eat on the benches, I have done twice before. Food was excellent, can't fault it, one of the best culinary experiences. The place is lovely, I liked the style and atmosphere. The only thing that needs improvement is the service. Staff forgot to bring items we ordered, the children drinks, one of the starters, and I got the distinct impression they forgot we ordered mains also. My husband got upset about the bottle of sparkling wine being opened and left open on the table, because the waiter forgot to bring glasses for it. By the time the waiter returned with fresh glasses for sparkling, my husband already made use of the wine glasses we already had on the table. That is because with sparkling wine, when you open, you pour. Also it is important to mention that smoking was allowed in the restaurant eating area. We were not expecting this.
