I had the opportunity to dine at "Bela Reka," a Belgrade restaurant that comes highly recommended in the Michelin Guide. Given its reputation for serving national cuisine, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired.
The restaurant's main offerings consisted of lamb and goat roasted dishes, as well as a mixed grill. While one would hope for these dishes to be the highlight of the meal, they were disappointingly average. Both the lamb and goat lacked the depth of flavor and tenderness one would expect from a place with such prestige. They were edible but failed to leave a lasting impression.
One of the more notable letdowns was the cheese selection. I had hoped to sample some traditional Serbian cheeses, but to my surprise, some of the expected regional offerings were missing from the menu. This was a clear oversight for a restaurant claiming to represent national cuisine.
The garden salad was another letdown, featuring a haphazard mix of ingredients that lacked flavor and freshness. A single tasteless tomato, a slice of bell pepper, and some cabbage hardly constitute a memorable salad, especially in a restaurant that claims to deliver an authentic culinary experience.
On a more positive note, "Bela Reka" boasts an impressive wine list, offering a diverse selection of local and international wines. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was pleasant, with an inviting ambiance that could have set the stage for a fantastic dining experience. The staff were courteous and attentive, contributing to an overall comfortable atmosphere.
Regrettably, the overall impression of "Bela Reka" fell short of its Michelin Guide recommendation. While the atmosphere and service were commendable, the lackluster food and the absence of key elements from Serbian national cuisine were disappointing. For those seeking an authentic culinary experience in Belgrade, I would recommend looking elsewhere, as "Bela Reka" is a restaurant that may not live up to its...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreApologies for the delay in providing this review as I was busy. On Tuesday, June 13th, I went to Bela Reka with my friends from America and my wife. At first, everything seemed wonderful. We tried delicious clotted cream and goat cheese, and the overall experience felt quite upscale. However, as we continued, the portion sizes became extremely small, and the taste didn't match the high price we were paying. We weren't impressed, but we accepted it for what it was. Then something unfortunate happenedāa server accidentally dropped a stack of plates near my friends. Glass shattered all around us, landing in our food and on our table. Now, we understand that accidents happen, but what bothered us was that the server didn't even pause to ask if we were okay. Not even for a moment. Instead, they immediately went to find a cleaning staff member. After the mess was cleared, we had to manually remove some glass from a safe distance using our hands and utensils. It was only then that the server came over and casually asked if everything was fine. Fine? It was the worst service we had ever experienced, and this restaurant presents itself as a high-end establishment featured in the Michelin guide. I strongly advise avoiding this place at all costs, and we definitely won't...

Service is the reason that brings down the entire rating. When bringing out the desserts for the table, I waited for nearly 10-15 minutes for my own dessert while my group all had theirs. In question that the waiter forgot to put in my order - I was reminded that they asked twice for our orders since they forgot the first time. After 5 minutes of waiting I called for a nearby waiter to remind them that my order still has not ordered. Whom responded by saying that I would need to call the waiter thatās responsible for our table. After 15 minutes of locating the individual and my dessert - I simply did not want it anymore and asked our waiter to remove it off the bill. In which they responded by itās coming itās coming and just like that the order came in 2 minutes of saying that I wanted it off the bill. At this point, I had waited nearly 20 minutes for the dessert. I understand that it is difficult to deal with multiple orders from a waiters perspective but this sort of service is surprising for a three year consecutive Michelin guide restaurant.
Food otherwise is acceptable but service itself was the most āmemorableā...
