We were actually here last night, but were so hungry that the thought of taking photos did not actually cross my mind. Apart from that it was late and dark therefore I came back today to have lunch, on my own so that I could enjoy every mouthful without the need to converse. Last night I was with family, from Australia and together, collectively, well we had a fabulous night. Our waiter Nikola made sure the night was a success even though he was rushed off his feet...
Today he was pleased to see me and I could see him laugh when he noticed my bare feet. Everyone should try it at least once, most people question you with their stares when you dare to walk barefoot.
I also returned today to meet the guy in charge of the kitchen, Bogdan as I had met his father earlier in the day. From his conversation you could tell how proud he was of all three of his children.
I started of by ordering a glass of dry white wine and asking for recommendations of the soups they had on offer. I chose the fish soup and finished it quickly. I do eat slowly but I was hungry and the soup was, well it was to my taste. Full of flavour and goodness from the fish used.
I had eaten the corn bread last night and I ordered four so I could take two away with me. I gave up gluten nearly six months ago and this was the first bread like product I have had. To make it perfect you need to eat it with 'kajmak' which is some where between butter and a soft cheese. Not to be found in the west it is something the people from the Balkans are very proud of. It did not disappoint. I ordered a tomato salad as last night the tomatoes were perfectly ripe and eating them, well to me they compare to the most expensive meat there is. They are sweet, refreshing and I cannot get enough.
As my finale I ordered chicken skewers which are served with a side of potatoes. By the time they arrived I was so full that I did not do them justice. Nikola asked if I would like to take the rest home, I polietly declined. They will never be as good cold.
So what can I conclude? If service, atmosphere and food are important to you then look no further. We were made to feel welcome. A message to the owner who I here is a professional in his own right and a youngster at that, this is what is considered success. 'Samo...
Read moreUnprofessional behavior! We had lunch here 7-8 times before and we came only because of the beautiful terrace and ambience. The food is average, the waiter is always waiting for a long time, even to pay the bill, and the prices are the highest in Vrnjacka Banja. Our last experience is a complete disappointment: we called 3 days in advance to reserve a table for May 1. We were told that due to the crowds, there are no reservations for that day, but that we can sit down, if there are free tables when we arrive. We came to the restaurant, most of the tables were free and all the tables had the inscription "reserved". The staff asked us for a reservation and on our comment, what is told to us 3 days ago, they offered us a table next to the kitchen, with a dirty tablecloth. We didn’t stay and we would never...
Read moreOne of the best old fashioned restaurants I have ever visited. If you are in a rush and want just a quick snack, this is not a place for you. However, if you have some time to relax and enjoy a pleasant ambient in the very center of Vrnjacka Banja, Three Pigeons are the right choice (it's actually three doves, although :)). The food is tasteful, delicious and fine-cooked. The service is also great, especially the owner of the place who is definitely one of the most genuine people I have ever met. Personal favorites: Veal medallions with mushrooms, potato and grilled vegetables; "Ljubica's sward"... it's actually a great amount of various very tasty meat (of various...
