Overall: We really wanted to like the restaurant since we started at the Lazare Picault Hotel but sadly did not have a great experience that included undercooked fish and won't come back here anytime soon. Food: The mixed salad was mostly cabbage and carrots with a few slices of cucumber, fewer slices of tomatoes and a tiny bit of soft mango on top. The salad comes without dressing, but there is oil, vinegar, salt and pepper on the table for that. The curry was decent, but overwhelmingly tasted like coconut milk, so it was very filling and got old very quick. We had a kid's Spaghetti Bolognese and for some reason that tasted very sweet with hints of ketchup. This seemed to be a theme as they also mentioned to the waitress that their grilled mussels we're also too sweet. The highlight of the meal was supposed to be the fish brochette (skewers) were too sweet with the dominant flavor of bbq sauce. The worst part was that 2-3 pieces of fish (and vegetablesas well) were undercooked and even smelled like raw fish with insufficient cold storage, and so we went from disappointed about food quality to worrying about food safety. Service: The service was friendly and polite, but not as jovial as the jokes on the menus had suggested. However, they failed to mention any of the specials on the board that were out of sight at our table and when we wanted to change one of the dishes for a special (within 5 minutes of ordering), we were refused with a sorry and a shoulder shrug. It would have also been great for the service to mention that the mixed salad (mostly cabbage and carrots) is essentially served with every main course and therefore superfluous. One odd thing was that when we called ahead we were told that they don't take walk ins and that we had to make a reservation, but then there were plenty of tables available for the time that we came, leaving a bit of a bad impression of being coaxed into committing to come. Ambience: Outdoor seating is quite nice with the ambient skins of waves lapping the shore. Unfortunately, we arrived at 8:10 and by 9 the staff began to stack chairs and drag tables across the floor, which made us feel a bit like we're being rushed out of...
Read moreThis place turned out to be such a nice surprise for me because I suggested it was just a mediocre restaurant down the road. What was my amazement when we were welcomed by very nice ladies, they checked our temperature at the entry and let us choose a table by our own. We asked for fish of the day and choose a red snapper for two (absolutely enough for 2 people). No words left - so delicious cooked, I would say - better than 4-stars hotel restaurants in Seychelles! Really, if you are beaching at Baie Lazare, Takamaka Beach or Anse Petite where we went before that - you should visit La Gaulette for lunch. They have great desserts and also fresh coconuts which are known for hydrating the body better than pure water (a tactic I use when I go to the beach). So, food, drinks, cleanliness, attitude they deserve all 5! + they...
Read moreAwesome food and wonderful service. We had the spring roll and samosa plate and smoked fish salad as starters the samosas and spring rolls were flavoursm and crispy. The smoked fish salad was vibrant and refreshing. As mains we had the grilled red snapper. The fillet was cooked to perfection juicy, moist and crispy skin, which was seasoned with a spice rub. This came with white rice, lentils, papaya chutney and a garlic butter sauce for the fish as well as a freshly made chilli sauce. All the flavours complimented each other perfectly. Finished off with a papaya compote and coconut icecream, the two contrasted nicely. You get a beautiful view of Anse Gaulette, with the beach being just across the road. Perfect service and delicious food, I would highly recommend...
