So, I swung by Jurong Point BBQ Box on a lazy Tuesday evening around 5.45pm, hoping to indulge in some tasty skewers and a refreshing drink. The good news? The place wasn't exactly teeming with people, probably because everyone was still dragging themselves home from work. We had our pick of seats and decided to brave the great outdoors.
Now, let's talk prices. They won't send you straight to the poorhouse, which is always a plus. You can grab a stick of goodness for as little as $1.5 SGD. But here's the thing—the taste. It's just average, thanks to their marinades (or lack thereof). We couldn't help but wonder if it would've been better if they skipped the marinade altogether. Oh well, we'll never know.
And let's not forget the drinks. I went all out and ordered an Asahi beer tower. Prepare yourself for a splurge because those boozy delights don't come cheap (SGD$90++ per tower). But here's the kicker—they were about as exciting as watching paint dry. Seriously, even the bottled version had more pizzazz.
Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty. The food. Oh boy, it's like they poured a gallon of oil into each dish. I wonder why the Americans haven’t invaded the place yet. And don't even get me started on the salt levels. Let's just say they could give the Dead Sea a run for its money. If you're health-conscious, steer clear, my friend.
As for the service, it's... well, it's service. Nothing to write home about, but they won't make you feel like you're dining in a haunted house either. So, there's that.
Here's the deal with their membership. For a cool $18, you get some perks like 3% cashback, a one-time $20 voucher, and a few complimentary skewers. Sounds tempting, right? Well, hold your horses. You can't stack those benefits like a Jenga tower. Nope, it's one at a time, damn capitalism. I joined the membership solely to take advantage of that $20 voucher and save a few dollars on the bill. But let's be real—I highly doubt I'll be making a grand return.
Jurong Point BBQ Box is not the worst restaurant in Singapore, but it's not exactly a culinary paradise either. So, unless you have a burning desire for oily, salty goodness and enjoy playing benefit roulette, you might want to venture elsewhere for...
Read moreVery disappointing experience. Went there on father's day and also to celebrate my sister's birthday. Wasnt given a fair treatment. Initially when we went, they mentioned the seats inside were reserved. After that, we saw a table that was being cleared up. Asked the staff if we could change and they told us we will be notified once available. Then came a couple after we asked to change seats and they also asked to change seats to the ones inside. They sat outside for awhile and in the end the cleared table was given to them without even notifying us. The weather was hot and humid and there wasn't even a fan at our table. Halfway through our meal, the rain suddenly came and contaminated everything on our table including the food but was only brushed off with a “不好意思”. My family also commented that the food was not fresh, which I also felt that way as I previously ordered delivery from them and I know that their normal standards weren't like this. The 酸梅汤 was also accompanied with a strong hint of bitterness which just added to our displeasure. Also, the fire for the heating pad which is supposed to keep our food warm wasn't even lighted up properly. We only found out after finishing our first round of skewers. Overall, the experience in store was terrible and when settling the bill, the staff kept pushing us to sign up for member and load a minimum of $300 to get the free credits even after we declined. Even though we spent $240, we felt that we definitely wouldn't...
Read moreAs regulars of BBQ box in other outlets (Bukit Timah and Bugis) This was our first time at Jurong Point BBQ Box and we were incredibly satisfied with the quality of the food and the superb service by the staff here! When we arrived, we were allowed to select the seat of our choice and a staff member (part time elderly lady) came almost immediately with 2 plates and the sheet for the grill, had a nice conversation with us before she got ready to knock off from work. The chuans were amazing and cooked to perfection (Pork Jowl and black pepper midjoints were our favourites) and our evening was made even better when my partner dropped her chopsticks and KS reacted to it immediately by rushing over and telling us that he would get us a new pair. This is extremely observant from KS as we were seated outside and he could have ignored it given the noise level outside. instead, his small gesture touched our hearts and made our evening a wonderful and unforgettable one. Thank you BBQ Box Jurong Point, we will definitely be back again...
