Wow, expect to queue 🅿️ for this restaurant if you get there at the peak makan times 🕕. I have never been to China 🇨🇳 Hunan so I really can’t say that “This compared to that….…” But here’s my honest review from a hungry jack! Lol 😜 Restaurant : We chance upon this at Vivo and we didn’t plan on eating here ahead of time. So, “Queue up we must”…. And that took about 20mins during dinner time @ 7pm for a table of 4 pax. Restaurant design is clearly influenced by China Chinese decorations and it’s beautifully done up. High ceiling, bright 💡, airy 💨 and no lingering smell 👃🏻. The pictures 🏞️🗾🌄 on the walls are of their recommended dishes and while walking in, by the time I sat down, I kinda already knew what I wanted to order. All the signatures dishes are up and superimposed in size. 🔍#hungrysiah Staff : Friendly, polite and fast on service. 💁♀️💁♂️ You are seated, scan the QR Code 🧾, place the order and the drinks 🥤and dine wears 🥢🍴🍽️ just appear! #magicspeed Food : Impressive! You will think you are being transported back to China 🇨🇳! I mean I ate at a lot of Chinese restaurants but this restaurant's quality of food 🥘🍲🍜 and Wok Hey is really impressive! Food is super fragrant, tasty, not overly salty🧂and the ingredients 🐟🍤🫑🥬 used are super fresh. I will highly recommend the following if you just want to be on the safe side and worry about the rest of the unique dishes. Go for : Stir Fried Beef 🐮 In Dried Chili 🌶️, Bake Shrimp 🍤 with Vermicelli & Garlic 🧄, Stir Fried Pork 🐷 with Abalone 🦪 & Chilli 🌶️, Sauerkraut Spicy and Soup Fish 🐟, You-Mai Lettice 🥬 with Black Beans and lastly…. The Signature Lemon Tea (1L) 🥤🥤🥤🥤 They are all very, very good, just whack! This is a must-return-to-eat-again-restaurant, which I intend to do so soon. Overall, I’m impressed by the restaurant 👍, service and quality of food. You should also visit this with confidence despite some not so ideal reviews previously. I didn’t experience any negative vibes and we had an awesome evening. 😎 #oneofthebestchineserestaurantinsingapore #dontmissthebakeshrimpwithvermicelli

Went there on the second day where there was a 50% promo. We managed to get a queue number and was told number will be called at 5.08pm, but was not advised if we can come back later to wait since our number is at the back, there was no system which allowed us to know what the current number is at at the moment, we can only just hang around outside the shop. We tried scanning the qr code on the queue number paper,as it says scan to avoid missing the number but it was not working, and was told it is because it is a qr code for china??? But hello we are in SG? Food overall was ok, although slightly oily, but flavours are good. But there were a few things that were rather disappointed. When we went in, a few of the dishes that we wanted were sold out. One thing to mention is the rice w sweet potato and red dates, it is a dish served in rice cooker and also a dish highly recommended. But the rice was sold out, but upon further asking, we realized the whole shop only had 8 rice cooker, that's why it was sold out. But we couldn't understand, 100+ queue number was given out, the whole shop that was so big, but they only prepared 8 rice cooker? The staff mentioned we can order if we are willing to wait for 20mins, as the rice needs to cook for 20mins, but right after placing the order, we were served the rice almost immediately?? Just probably won't go back again..

Perhaps we caught them on a bad day, but I don't understand the hype? The food is just ok and the service generally is a bit lacking. My family queued about 30 mins (there always seems to be a long queue here). Not sure how well they clean because the booth seat was oily and the previous diners' cup lid wasn't cleared, so from the start I felt slightly uncomfortable. Ordering was also troublesome because the connection in the restaurant is very weak + they don't provide wifi to customers. The free Vivo wifi doesn't reach this part of the mall as well. The stir fried pork (our main dish!) took about 40 mins to be served, so we really just sat there staring into space, nibbling on rice and green chili for half an hour. One of our orders was also mistakenly cancelled off our receipt despite it not being served yet, luckily we noticed early enough and had that fixed. Anyway the food is not bad but it's not food that I would wait more than an hour for. Never been to Hunan so I can't say much about authenticity, but all I can say is I've been to other Hunan cuisine restaurants in Singapore and had a much better experience~

Casserole flavoured smoked bamboo shoot 😍 ($16.90++) is very flavourful! I love bamboo shoot and this did not disappoint. But not much meat inside. Signature grass fish fillet 😊 ($25.90++) is interesting. It is thin slices with a firm and (prawn like) springy texture. Grass fish is a fish with loads of tiny bones. It's amazing how they managed to remove bones and fillet the fish. Stir fried cauliflower 🙂 ($13.90++) is not really spicy even though we ordered the spicy option due to cauliflower not having the anatomy to absorb flavours well. Stir fried kampung chicken with camellia oil 🙂 ($23.90++). Very spicy! But I love the black fungus in it though, absorbed alot of the flavour. Chicken does not have much meat, alot of bones. Rice ($1.60++) is slightly yellowish, not sure what they added inside. Complimentary glutinous rice cake 😍 very chewy, soft and just the right level of sweetness! Very long queues but moves pretty fast esp when compared to the restaurant just beside it. Service staff forgot our request for common utensils after serving us rice, had to get another service staff to help with that.

Sichuan cuisine is well known here in Singapore. But Hunan restaurants are only starting to appear here in the F&B scene. This restaurant at VivoCity is the second outlet and it has over 100 stores in China. I walked past it a few times and there is always a long queue. I don't take too spicy food but am also curious and willingly to try. And we managed to find a table for lunch. I don't have any expectations but I only know the dishes will be mainly spicy! We orders a few dishes but what stand out for me is the pan-seared green chillies with century egg. It came in a mortar and you need to pound and mix the ingredients in there. It looks rather mushy but it is really quite tasty. Also good is the stir fried bamboo shoots with pickled vegetables. Salty and crunchy! We also had the stir fried cauliflower and thankfully there is a non spicy option for this dish! Overall even with the spiciness of most of the dishes. I did enjoy lunch. If you like your food spicy this is the place for you!

Noticing the absence of the usual long queues, we decided to give this restaurant a try. We ordered two of their top six signature dishes: Stir-Fried Pork with Abalone and Chili, and Sauerkraut Fish with Soup. Both were delicious and really brought me back to flavors I enjoyed in China. The pork dish was flavorful, though I’d recommend using more lean pork slices for a lighter option. The fish soup was generally hot, but it didn't meet my husband’s standards for heat, so we opted to have it reheated instead of a new serving. The Wuchang steamed rice was of good quality at @$1.60/bowl before gst and service charge. The service was outstanding—friendly and patient staff made the experience even better. You may even join the free membership and enjoy discounted pricing for the dishes at checkout instantly! We had a great makan time and already know what to order on our next visit: Big Shrimp with Vermicelli and Garlic, Stir-Fried Cauliflower, and Kampung Chicken. Looking forward to it!
