Just opened near the Somerset MRT, and have been waiting to try this place. It did not disappoint. For those not wanting to read the details this is a place worth stopping at for both the food and service. The tapas concept is good for small plate sharing, you'll just need to order a few tapas / potato plates with your main course. The staff is attentive and quick to respond.
The flavors perfectly complement the dishes. Tried the crab potato dish and the half bird on our first visit. Will definitely be coming back to try the hummus and chorizo noodle paella.
The potato crab has a hint of lemon and butter over the fried potato which brings out the flavor of the crab perfectly. Highly recommend this dish.
The half bird had that crispy skin shown in their photos, a flare of fajita peppers and oinio over the rice. Now the rice you might be expecting to be that perfect paella rice, but they add a bit of flair and toast it up a bit giving you a nice crunch to complement the chicken and fajita veg.
As for price and quantity, it's definitely reasonably priced for what your getting. I'm sure some will ask about the portion size, which I think needs to be balanced with the tapas style restaurant and Spanish inspired courses.
One tapa and a main are definitely enough for an individual, but would definitely recommend a couple or family order a few tapas to start, and possibly 2 mains depending on how hungry you are.
Overall, good experience and food. Will definitely be back again soon.
-----Update after lunch visit-----
So it's been a few months now, and we found ourselves back at LA Bird, this time for lunch. I have to say the food is better. We had the '2 course set lunch' and another in our group had the 'Spanish Roast Boneless Chicken leg with Onion rice'. The 2 Course was ordered with the Spicy Roast potatoes and the Squid Ink & Pea Fideua.
First, the potatoes were perfectly done, fluffy inside with a nice crispy skin and an excellent pairing dipping sauce.
The Chicken with Onion Rice was by itself so flavorful. The chicken skin had a nice grill, again, it wasn't dry at all and they added a wafer crisp for a pleasant texture surprise to complement the rice. And the sauce... Amazing! It's got a hint of Tabasco flavor with a ketchup like consistency that just knocked this dish out of the park.
Now the Squid Ink Fideua... I was skeptical as it can be a tough dish to cook. But o how wrong I was. The flavor in this dish cannot be passed up. Texture, flavor combination between the squid, ink, veg, and that special ingredient brought the entire thing together to make the taste buds dance.
Price vs fullness I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The lunch offering was spot on with the price point to amount of food. For 2 we paid 15 for the 2 course lunch + 10 for the Chicken & Onion rice. 25 SGD for 2 and we walked away full, but not stuffed.
Highly recommend checking this place out,...
Read moreWe passed it several times but tended to swing over next door to the Godaime restaurant but as it was a casual birthday treat of a walk in with less queue without the hassle of pre-booking I decided to do a cheat day as the steaks beckoned invitingly. We came early and it was uncrowded. The menu was a heady selection of options so we thought let’s try it as everyone has a choice. After all, to get a classic affordable Western family restaurant that is halal is a rare one.
Now the food is generously served so that’s a great plus point. As the Caesar Salad was priced so affordably I thought let’s grab that as I crave greens that is a must have for me. Unfortunately it came rather quickly tossed together clumsily and the authentic familiar flavour was hardly apparent; it was just a salad sprinkled. The nachos are fine but not spectacular. Rather disappointing but at the price they charged we could not complain much. I chose the Mixed Grill with Aglio Olio and that didn’t disappoint. I kept telling my wife with a generous cut of lamb and chicken with a full plate of pasta I was a happy man. The staff at the front taking the order at the till recommended the popular choice of having it with black pepper sauce. While it is good it was a tad rather spicy for me but then again as we looked at the local crowd with Malays in the house we understood better as the spice tolerance for them is higher. Not for us though. My daughter had the Grilled Salmon and she was happy. My wife chose the Crispy Dory Fillet with Fries; it was again a generous portion for the price charged and she had no complaints. As she put it you can’t go wrong with fish and chips. I beg to differ but obviously Bird Avenue does it pretty well. My son seemed happy with his chicken steak with his pasta. He liked the mushroom soup better.
It is a help yourself kinda restaurant that serves generous helping of classic Western fare and priced reasonably. So it is no surprise that it attracts and is popular with families. You order at the till at the entrance, pay for it and later collect your food from the serving window near the kitchen. Service is friendly and efficient. So all in all and considering it is located in the heart of the city shopping district at The Centrepoint it is a no brainer good option for the family. And if you crave familiar Western staples then it’s a fantastic choice. Just unpretentious and a lovely dining choice for the whole family. For Muslims who used to envy such restaurants which we could not patronise in the past then now we can with this. All good. For the family in the heart of town.I just wonder why it is called...

Came here around 1 month back and thought the food were pretty good but portion were on the smaller side. Decided to come back again with my family tonight and it was really subpar. Bad points: Paella and fideua- dry and burnt, the portion for paella is miserable with the bottom of the pan clearly visible (not enough rice to even cover the bottom). When given this feedback to the staff, staff responded with ‘oh we weigh the rice, this is the right portion’. Ok, we decided to look on the bright side, tried the taste and it’s all burnt- ALL the rice to the point of ‘Chao ta’. Again, gave the staff another feedback that we really can’t eat this and she said ‘uh sorry we didn’t mention you need to mix it’. What has mixing got to do with the every grain of rice being burnt? I really don’t understand the logic. I’m no connoisseur but I’m quite sure it’s not supposed to be cooked to this extend and this taste. Another complain was the staff didn’t even bother to care about the quality of the food or feedback given, they just react by giving justifying statements. Good points:Their side dishes were well done- salad fresh and dressing delicious, mushroom were creamy and slightly smokey, well balanced, crab potatoes on the sour side but still good. Although the paella was atrociously done, the chicken on the paella is cooked moist and crispy which we appreciated (if not my child wouldn’t even have enough to eat for dinner). My child was given free teddy biscuit, and drawing materials with a big piece of colouring paper.
Overall, no matter how nice the sides were, it couldn’t save the quality of the...
