I had the privilege of celebrating a birthday at Black Society, Vivocity, and to say that the experience was delightful would be an understatement. From the very beginning, the ambiance of the place set the tone for what was about to be an unforgettable culinary journey.
The Crab Bee Hoon was an immediate standout. Perfectly cooked, the subtle flavors of the crab intertwined seamlessly with the Bee Hoon, creating a mouthwatering symphony of tastes that danced on our palates. This dish alone would warrant a return visit.
The Pig Stomach Soup was both comforting and invigorating. Rich, but not overwhelming, it showcased the essence of traditional flavors, transporting us to a home-cooked setting.
The Steamed Marble Goby Fish was an epitome of freshness. Each bite was tender and flavorful, embodying the pure essence of the sea. It's evident that the restaurant takes pride in sourcing the best quality ingredients.
Our greens for the night, the Stir fry Spinach, was beautifully seasoned and cooked just right - neither too wilted nor too raw, capturing the right balance of texture and taste.
A delightful surprise was the Fish Skin– crispy, light, and an absolute treat to munch on. This was a snack we kept coming back to between dishes, adding a wonderful crunchy contrast to the meal.
And to round off this splendid meal, the Almond Cream in Mini Papaya was simply divine. A sweet ending to our feast, the creamy almond melded perfectly with the sweetness of the papaya, offering a refreshing and light dessert that satiated without overwhelming.
Beyond the food, the service was impeccable. Attentive without being intrusive, the staff made sure our evening was smooth and memorable. The restaurant itself, with its warm ambiance and sophisticated decor, made for a perfect backdrop for our special celebration.
In conclusion, Black Society at Vivocity is not just a restaurant; it’s an experience. For those seeking a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary flavors presented with flair, this is a must-visit. Kudos to the team for crafting such a splendid dining memory for us. Highly...
Read moreWent to the Vivo branch on 04 Jul around 12+ to 1pm. The manager (quite an elderly guy, in suit) asked whether we made reservation and said that we might have to wait a while as the restaurant was full. From our view at the entrance, there were many empty tables, nevertheless we said ok.
The same manager went inside and came out few minutes later and ushered us in. Not sure what was the unnecessary antics for, to claim that the restaurant was full when obviously it was not. Throughout our 1hr+ dining there, the same empty tables were not occupied at all.
We decided to order a few dim sum items for a light lunch. The same manager took our order. After about half an hour, we then realised that we were not given the order chit despite every other tables got them. Their food were also served despite coming much later than us. We suspected the manager had missed out keying in our order.
We decided to enquire about it and only then did he take it from the counter and gave it to us. True enough to our suspicion, a check on our watch shows 13:25 and the time on the order chit was 13:24. Obviously, the manager had completely forgotten about keying in our order for the last half hour or so. After that, he tried to pretend that nothing was amiss and said nothing about his oversight. He even tried to make a show of it, talking quite loudly to the elderly aunty waitress to hurry the kitchen for our order, as if it was the kitchen mistake and problem.
Even when we paid our bill at the counter, the same manager maintained his hush-hush about his mistake and oversight.
Have been to your other branches at Orchard and Great World. Had much better service at Orchard. The food quality is definitely good but the service received at Vivo City has certainly marred the whole...
Read moreWe were impressed by the standard of dim sum here, and the 30% discount from 2.30pm - 5pm makes it very value-for-money considering the high quality you're getting. Service was alright, and ambience was good. Their playlist was full of those old Cantonese songs, which made the vibe feel a bit like those old Hong Kong restaurants.
We ordered quite a lot and would say most are hits over misses.
Hits: Signature Truffle Mushroom Bao Prawn & Crispy Skin Rice Roll King Har Gau Original Xiao Long Bao Tobiko Egg White Dumpling (Do note that the Chinese celery taste is very strong) Signature Custard Lava Bun XO Panfried Radish Cake
Acceptable: Crystal Trufle Dumpling: I personally thought it was not bad, the taste was very pure in the sense that one could really taste the flavour of the truffle and the mushrooms in the filling. However, it could be a bit saltier. Famous Chilli Crab Tart: Not a fan of chilli crab, so I didn't like this that much. I do think chilli crab lovers will enjoy this. Their tart crust is very delicious though, super buttery with a melt-in-mouth texture.
Misses: Purple Sweet Potato Pastry: There's a stick of mozzarella cheese inside it, which I felt didn't go very well with the sweet potato on the outside. It got too jelat towards the end as well. Sichuan Spicy Soft Shell Crab and Chicken: This dish wasn't flavourful enough, it could have used a lot more spices and salt. On the bright side, the soft shell crab was fried to perfection.
Prices are atypical to what you'd see at a classier Chinese restaurant, which is acceptable given the quality. There is a wide variety of dim sum offered, which is impressive. Overall, I'll definitely be back for their dim sum and to try out their...
