Kitty and I were excited to try Edith Patisserie Cake Bar, drawn in by the enticing selection of cakes on Google. We made a special trip from Punggol, arriving around 8 p.m., hoping to enjoy a sweet treat before they closed at 9 p.m. However, our experience started on a sour note.
As soon as we walked in, the lady behind the counter immediately told us they were out of drinks and closing soon. We were surprised, as it was only 8 p.m., and questioned if we could still dine in. She agreed but insisted there were no drinks available. Kitty, understandably, pointed out that it was difficult to enjoy cakes without a drink.
The lady's attitude wasn't very welcoming, and we felt a bit frustrated. The server who then helped us seemed impatient, almost rushing to close up for the night. We were tempted by the sets displayed at the entrance, but we learned that they were out of hot drinks. This meant we couldn't choose a set, as Kitty only wanted a hot drink and wasn't keen on the chocolate cake, the only option available.
We tried to get a solution by ordering the iced cinnamon chocolate, but the server insisted it could only be ordered with the set and not with a different cake. It took about 5-6 minutes of back and forth before we finally understood the confusing system and managed to order our food at 8:12 p.m. (you can refer to the receipt, which I have a photo of).
After Kitty ordered the lychee cake, the iced chocolate, and the orange juice, she noticed a sign about a membership promotion. It offered a free drink of any choice for members who check in. Kitty had already checked in, but the server refused to honor the promotion. Kitty initially wanted to void the whole transaction and redo it, but she stayed cool and accepted a brownie cake instead. She felt the server should have been upfront about the promotion and offered the drink when we were ordering.
While taking photos of the establishment, another server came forward and told us the section was closed, even though it was 8 p.m. and there was one empty table. This felt unnecessary and quite inconsiderate, as we had planned to sit there and enjoy our desserts. We were then led to the table in the corner near the entrance. Since we were the only customers in this section, it meant that any other customers who walked in would have nowhere to sit, as the entire section was closed.
The iced chocolate was not good, but the lychee, brownie cakes, and orange juice were fine. The ambience was nice and cozy, with good air conditioning, but the service really brought down the whole experience. Kitty was surprised that they were closing at 8 p.m., as the official closing time was 9 p.m. This was totally unacceptable, and it felt like the servers were just trying to rush us out the door.
Kitty and I were so angry that we started browsing through the Google reviews of this establishment. We saw many complaints about the service, even months ago and as recently as the past week. It was disappointing to see that the management had even posted an apology message to the public months ago, but the service issues remained unchanged. Despite acknowledging the problems, nothing seemed to have been done to address them. As much as Kitty and I did not want to give this establishment a low rating, the repeated service feedback from customers, all highlighting the same complaints, led us to believe that the situation hadn't improved. This consistent pattern, even after the management acknowledged the issues, was very disappointing.
Overall, despite the appealing cakes and pleasant atmosphere, the terrible service, inconvenient closing time, and lack of responsiveness from management made Edith Patisserie Cake Bar a completely disappointing experience. It's a shame because with some improvements to the service and communication, it could be a much better place. However, based on our experience and the consistent negative feedback from other customers, we wouldn't recommend this establishment and have to give it a...
Read moreUpdate: Made my 2nd visit here again today to satisfy the Edith brownie cravings. Was pleasantly greeted by another staff, service was so much better this time. She is a lot more bubbly and smiley. Truly felt welcomed at the store today. Brownies are as per usual on point! Will surely be back again, definitely my to-go place for brownies now. :) ——— First visit review: Tried these brownies at Taka during the Food Fest and fell in love with them. Decided to come down to their cafe to purchase more but was absolutely disappointed with the service here. Staff wasn’t friendly, no smiles, rude tone. I do understand that the cafe is crowded and it could be stressful but this isn’t an excuse for lousy service. She sounded as if she was upset having customers in the store. The management should really check in on her to see whether she really enjoys her job. No point staying on if she hates it.
Bought 2 boxes of brownies and asked to separate pack bc 1 was for a friend. But was told they only have big bags and need to pay additional 50c for that. For other customers, please do take note on this. If I knew I could have made two separate purchases. The staff didn’t even bother to tape the box (please refer to photo on this). It looks really ugly like that.
Do hope that Edith Patisserie can work on their service in-store. I must say that I had very pleasant experiences with their staff over the phone and at Taka. Ultimately, I buy delicious treats to make myself (and others) happy. So, if I get upset during the purchasing process then I’d rather...
Read moreI am writing this review to express my disappointment and frustration regarding an incident that occurred during my recent visit to your establishment. I believe it is important to bring this matter to your attention in order to maintain a decent standards of customer service that I have come to expect from your restaurant.
While dining at this restaurant today, I encountered an unpleasant experience with one of the waitresses. Unfortunately, she displayed inappropriate behavior by shouting at me. This incident left me feeling humiliated and disrespected.
As a customer, I believe that it is crucial for the staff to treat all patrons with professionalism and courtesy. Shouting at a customer is not only unprofessional but also creates a negative atmosphere for other diners. It is disheartening to witness such behavior.
I kindly request that you investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to address this issue. It is my hope that you will provide additional training to your staff members, emphasizing the importance of respectful and calm communication with customers. Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could ensure that I, as well as other customers, do not have to endure such treatment in the future.
This incident has greatly tarnished my perception of your establishment. I trust that you will handle this complaint in a prompt and professional manner, and that necessary steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring...
