Canton Paradise's food is really tasty and authentic, every dish is cooked to perfection and this has been my experience so far with both Bishan and MBS outlet! Well done to the team! Besides food quality, I would like to specially mention and commend the great team lead by the Manager on duty on 30march (visited between 315-415pm) at MBS! I happen to witness the consistent high-service-level from the Manager on duty and his team during a high-stress period during high-tea where the following situations happened: (1) Crew accidentally spilled chilli oil at our table and it almost got to my phone. We did not react as we were not affected. Manager on duty immediately came over with a stack of paper, and opened a wet napkin for me to clean my phone and apologise on behalf of his crew. When they walked away, i saw how kind the manager was to his crew by his hand gestures to his staff to be more careful. this is a very kind manager who appreciate his staff and yet solve problem together. I was impressed for the first time. (2) 10mins later, we queued up for payment at the check-out and was held up for a very long time (more than 10 mins to make a payment) by the customers in front of us.. they were argueing with the cashier over a few nitty gritty things like rebate balance of $3.60 ?! which according to the cashier did not exist in the system, next trying to push for discount + point collection. Honestly, difficult customers harping over small rebates and checking the receipt over and over. Well they were wearing diamond rings and luxury watches. I could empathise how difficult it must be for the cashier to do his job, and he remained very patient and friendly throughout. When it was done finally, the manager (who was aware) came over to pat on his staff's arms to show empathy and recognition. We were impressed again. (3) While the cashier was handling the difficult customers, there were also a long queue waiting for takeaways and dine-in. A customer started to make a scene by complaining really loudly at the entrance, just next to the cashier. She was fussing over long waiting-time. It was clear that the team was short-handed. I felt stressed even as a customer to be caught there. The Manager again attended very politely and patiently to the complainer, while trying to manage her to ensure the dine-in customers are not affected by her loud manner. He also continued to take care of other customers in the queue. Very impressed.
I hope the management of Canton Paradise would do something to recognise this Manager on duty (Man in suite) at MBS outlet on 30March, high-tea period. His professionalism and service attitude, plus his excellent management of his crew members is really commendable. This is a staff you do not...
Read moreI took some overseas guests for lunch at this restaurant. What a mistake... one meal arrived way ahead of the other two. We watched our friend finish her duck noodles (she ate very slowly) while we waited for our dishes to arrive.
My friend chased down the head waitress to check on our order. She apologetically brought them out shortly after. The meals were not hot. My chicken leg noodle was appalling. The chicken leg which we were charged $2 extra for was clearly made a few days prior - the colour was off, it was dry & had no taste at all. The presentation was so uninspiring I didn't even bother taking pictures of the dishes but in hindsight I should have snapped a picture to show how poor the quality was. It was a most unenjoyable meal but not wanting to make things unpleasant, I tried to make the most of it and persisted with finishing the meal. Unfortunately it gave me a tummy upset a couple of hours after. I realise now, the right thing to do was to have sent the chicken back and rejected the meal or given the kitchen a chance to make things right. The chicken noodle shop near my flat in my housing board estate serves much fresher, tender tasty chicken noodles for $5. I will take my guests there in future.
The head waitress tried her best. But another waitress with whom I requested some chilli from was unhelpful and reacted as though I'd asked her for her kidney. The compulsory 10% service charge is a slap in the face for service like this. If it were up to us, we would not have left a single cent for service charge. We felt ripped off.
