Good Standard Food
the restaurant call themselves 小香港. the food has some hong kong standard.horrors – the 1/2 roast duck price gone up from S$25 to S$33.60 (no 1/2 duck on menu now, only a portion at $16.80 so i asked server, she said 1/2duck price = 2 portions).i ordered porridge & 2 dimsum plus 1/2 duck.the duck here has always been quite ok.
for me – it’s about house of roasted duck劉強烤鴨店standard not as good as royal london duck not as good as tunglok singatures at orchard parade hotel not as good as xin cuisine not as good as ya wang 鸭皇 in JB basically duck had good crispy skin, fairly good taste but not as flavourful “pang” as the others. among all tunglok’s royal london duck & xin cuisine’s tea flavoured roast duck were the best.
porridge was good. smooth, about crystal jade standard, better than the hawker’s porridge like 鸿记porridge, but still not as sweet as porridge in hong kong street stalls.har gao was pretty good, though not my favourite dimsum.and steamed pork ribs were great, smooth, tasty, tender pork, not too fatty.lunch was S$67. after S$50 voucher = S$17, so total S$28.80+S$17=S$45.50, very decent price for the...
Read moreTl;dr food is great! But being on the expensive side, one would most certainly expect it to be. Do expect for a long wait (20 mins for seat, 40 mins to serve) during peak hours.
Food quality is most certainly worthy of praise here, particularly the salted egg yolk buns (the ones that looks like piggy heads). They were served hot and nice! Other dishes were quite nice as well, such as the stir fried Ee fu noodles. The beef hor fun was a little too dry for my tastes and didn't have enough wok hei, but some may prefer it this way. Overall, worth the price!
However, the overall experience was far from the food quality. Granted I'm visiting at weekend dinner service (which is super duper busy), first impressions were still one of the poorer ones I've experienced in casual dining restaurants. The place, though air conditioned, was still a little warmer that I'd like. The place was quite noisy, and I could barely talk to the person across the table without raising my voice. The saving grace was that the crew seem well trained enough to handle the crowd.
Food service during peak hours was slow. Really slow. I would consider this to be a failure on the restaurant management's part in understaffing the restaurant. The staff was sincere in their service and were doing their best so I don't have anything to complain about that. We ordered 7 dishes and the first dish only arrived more than half an hour after we first sat down and placed our orders. Even the poor Deliveroo person had to wait quite a while at the counter. The rest of the dishes arrived over the span of the next 10 minutes.
Overall, I would most definitely visit perhaps during weekday lunch or tea time. Peak hour is just too crowded for me. Do give it a go if you're in for some good...
Read moreExtremely disappointed with the service here.
We had a reservation at 7pm for a birthday dinner, but when we arrived at 7pm, the staff told us that our table was still occupied. We waited for 10 minutes, and there was no update from the staff, and we had to chase them to tell us what's going on. Yet, we were told to wait longer, and the staff was not apologetic at all.
After 5 more minutes, we chased again, and they finally let us in, BUT only gave us a table for 6 people, when we had 7 people. After that, we were squeezed onto this table for 15 more minutes, without any staff offering to take our order first despite us asking when we can get a proper table.
After a grand total of 30 minutes from our reservation time, we finally got our seat and got our order taken. The subsequent service after that was poor as well. One example would be us trying to get our rice served. We had ordered rice with our dishes, and all our dishes were already served. We approached one staff about our rice, but nothing was served after 5 minutes. We approached a second staff about it, but our rice still was not served after 5 minutes. My mother had to literally stand up and walk to near the kitchen for them to give us our rice.
Canton Paradise team, you guys are charging customers $30 per person, yet are providing $3 worth of service. I think the zichar store at the coffee shop near my house provides much better service than this place.
Don't think my family is coming back here (which is sad as my grandparents used to like this place). I think we'll go to Crystal Jade or Peach Garden instead of we ever have a dinner...
