This restaurant offers delicious and authentic Chinese cuisine at a very affordable price. Highly recommended dishes include the pig ear, garlic chicken with honey sauce, marinated/fermented long beans with chicken gizzard, and braised pork ribs.
The pig ear is a standout dish with its unique texture. The chef expertly prepares it into a jelly, offering a delightful combination of crunchy soft bone, smooth meat, and rich collagen. The accompanying chili oil adds a nice touch.
The chicken garlic with honey sauce boasts a complex and captivating flavor. Once served, the intense aroma of fried whole garlic fills your senses. The chicken cube is crispy outside and tender inside. After taking a bite, the sweetness and sourness of the honey sauce dance on your tongue, followed by the savory essence of fresh chicken. Combining a piece of chicken with the fried garlic creates a symphony of sweet, savory, sour, and spicy notes, perfectly balanced.
The braised pork rib is also good, with the braising sauce cooked to perfection. However, the pork doesn't quite fall off the bone, and the meat could be juicier.
The fermented long beans with chicken gizzard perfectly complement rice, their tangy flavor whetting your appetite. The fermented element adds a healthy bonus.
For other dishes, the handmade dumplings are also good. The stir-fried You Mai Cai, while average, provides a lighter option. The lamb rib with spices, unfortunately, suffers from the typical unpleasant odor of frozen lamb.
This family-friendly restaurant offers acceptable service and boasts a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. While the location is a bit out of the way (ulu), it's easily accessible by taking a bus from the MRT station.
Highly recommended for those craving affordable and authentic Chinese food. I enjoyed my last visit so much. Will definitely revisit soon! The reservation could be made via WeChat or chatting on the Google...
Read moreSee this across the road after a movie at Shaw and thought it's a wonderful place to eat.
Upon reaching the place, it was not crowded, but the lady glanced at us when we entered the shop as though looking down on us (I dont even know what did us do to trigger her response). Place is small, and we find a seat at the small corner on our own since the lady sees us and doesn't acknowledge us. Chair was a bit uncomfortable for me as though I was sitting inside a hole, and the same goes for the backrest.
The lady came and dumped one menu on our table. Next, she came and asked whether we wanted to order already and talk to us so impolitely and look so fierce.
But then, she changed and became friendly and started apologising to every table for the long wait as suddenly the crowd got heavy. Serving us the food also became polite.
Got to know from other reviewers that this shop is open by a couple. That's why the long wait for the food as there seems to be only one person cooking the food. The lady also has to hurry clean up the table whenever new customers come.
So the lady is a one person show doing ordering, serving, cleaning the tables and cashiering.
The food was ok.
The place is open from 12 pm to 12 midnight as indicated on the glass door.
Wiĺl come back again to try their xiao long bao as indicated by...
Read moreWe were looking for authentic Chinese food and found this place on Google maps. The place itself may not be super fancy but the food was so good. We shared all the dishes and the garlic chicken was so yummy with all the garlic, definitely recommend that dish! All the food was freshly prepared and tasted perfect, even a simple dish like the fried rice was super tasteful.
I'm very picky about food quality and taste but this was really a hidden gem in Singapore. Also very affordable, we've paid SG$56 incl 1 beer and a softdrink. Make sure to check this place out if you like...
