Believe it or not, this is my first ever time trying lok lok 😛 got to try it for the first time at Da Cheng Lok Lok, a popular lok lok brand from Malaysia! Even on a Tuesday evening, the entire coffeeshop was packed with their customers, proving just how popular they are.
The pricing is determined based on the number of sticks skewered through each ingredient (1 stick = $1, 2 sticks = $2). Unfortunately there weren't any pricing signboards up anywhere so we got a bit confused with the prices, think it would be good to put one up as we didn't think that they counted the price by the number of literal sticks.
Each stick was so nicely grilled / fried! Super indulgent especially when paired with the sauces. A really great first lok lok experience, though the toilet didn't agree with me after 🥴 #oily
They also have wanton mee, though I wasn't all that impressed --- the bowls were pretty small considering the $4.50 price and the char siew was extremely tough and too chewy. Noodles were nubbad though. Would definitely recommend getting their lok lok as that was a lot more palatable.
Would return for more lok lok cuz their selection is super vast and they have pretty unique stuff, like otah buns and...
Read moreIt was really crowded at dinner time and the snaking queue was more than 20mins just to order. Then wait another 30mins to get your food. Luckily we ordered wanton mee which was quite like the ones we had in Johor, and the noodles were served faster than the loklok.
The stall is within the coffeeshop and the coffeeshop was so crowded, had to wait for people to finish and before we can get seats. Ordered some beer from the drinks stall while waiting. Weather was hot and there seems to be no wind or wind from fan in the area. Was not very comfortable compared to a few other loklok place that we went before.
The variety of the loklok actually is not alot compared to what other famous loklok place offers, and somehow it seems more expensive as many of the items are with 2 sticks. Taste wise was acceptable but not that extremely good like advertised. Prefer those with more powder (i think chilli and salt and pepper). The queue management needs to be improved, saw many loklok left in the open and queuing. Maybe consider more cooks for it? Need to change the kitchen to...
Read moreSaw post on FB & decided to try it out. If you are comparing this Lok Lok with the Malaysia roadside stalls, you're in for a disappointment. Anyway, I think it is quite acceptable for Singapore, though. Becareful with the $1 per stick gimmick. I found out th hard way when paying. The easy way to navigate is to count the sticks. If u see 2 orc3 sticks, it means it is 2 times or 3 times, respectively. I must, however, compliment their wide selection of sauce. A must try is the Mala & the greenish looking Thai sauce. Super yummy. Location, it's near the MRT Station, but if you are driving, don't panic when you enter the Industrial Building. Yes, DA Cheng is located in the basement there, facing the main road a must try is their wanton noodles. They have black or white sauce, but I recommend the black because that is the true Malaysia Wanton...
