Firestone Bakery — Restaurant in Singapore

The breakfast menu at Firestone Bakery is only available on weekends, & they are priced more affordable than the other menu of sandwiches. After purposefully making the journey here, I was quite sad that the only 2 breakfast sandwiches available that day had bacon as a meat inside. My least favourite meat.. Ugh.

Having said that, I still enjoyed my Bacon & Egg ($6.90 nett) sandwich. It had a winning combination of savoury bacon with sweet tomato relish. I loved how the bread was toasted; crispy yet not tough. Glad they didn’t mess that up, as a bakery 😂

The sunny side up egg could've been less done such that the yolk is runny - I prefer my eggs overeasy, & a runny yolk is also good for the ‘gram, isn’t it? But at the very least, it wasn’t powdery… Thank God.

This came with a 20-minute wait; I appreciated how they pre-empted me of the waiting time as I ordered it. Sat in a corner sipping on my coffee, doing my own thing & people-watching from time to time.

I was horrified when my Latte (8oz, $4.50 nett) came in a paper cup. I try to avoid disposables when I can.. & this came without any pretty art, which was disappointing. It tasted fine, but it was an unfortunate mismatch in expectations from the pictures I’d previously seen.

Would I come back here? I’m undecided. Service was so lukewarm, unfortunately almost unwelcoming.. But the regulars seemed to be treated with chirpy cheer. Lots came to takeaway loaves of bread, popping in & out for a quick pickup.

I’m inclined to say I would not return, from a dine-in perspective.. But I might consider takeout if it’s convenient/on the way. For those who are keen to dine in, bear in mind this is a small establishment… There are only 12 seats indoors, & a few seats outdoors.

We drove all the way here, came to this place because of the raving reviews and we’re sourdough lovers, but when we arrived, we assumed the shop was closing down or something. The almond croissant and otah croissant were good pieces of bread, but not mindblowing enough to put up with the service and lack of essentials. The young man who served us wasn’t rude or anything but was ENTIRELY clueless and oblivious to what service entails. We had to ask him what the bread selection included, we had to ask him to clear the table of the huge tub of bread so we could have a seat. We could not try the butter even though the poster said ‘request for tester’. All we wanted was basic service, not asking for five-star treatment. No coffee too, it was 10.30am. When we asked for the manager so we could know more about the bread, we’re told the manager was at another outlet. Really horrendous experience. I understand that having bread could be a take-out experience here, but perhaps train your staff properly so they know what to do. Again, want to emphasise that the boy wasn’t rude or anything, he’s fine but just wasn’t trained and did not know how to be a customer-facing service staff, at all. We won’t be...

The first touch point of meeting a "forever person" always fascinates me.

How can one know when life will change in a day? How can one fathom when the start of a long lasting blossoming relationship could begin?

Most times these meetings are unplanned, and even if they were, how often do they become soaked with destiny and stamped with eternal intimacy?

Sometimes you know they are it from the first moment you lock eyes. Sometimes it takes a few meetings for that knowing to grow into something.

Relationships and intertwining destiny are fascinating things.

As for me, it was a usual weekend morning in which I woke up craving a good bready meal, found a hidden bakery in my neighborhood and innocently waltzed in.

Little did I know it'd be the day I meet Kougn Anign.

He had a crispy caramel fermentation on the outside, with a salty peak to contrast the sweet, and his dough was made with japanese flour which makes his inside fluffy and chewy. Japanese flour is also high in protein. (Take my calorieees)
