Food: Quality was good, really enjoyed their pizzas. Note that portion sizes are quite small for the price point, best to order your own mains and sides if you want to feel satiated. The beef tartare with truffle chips was wonderful. The crochettone failed to stand out but it's a good vegetarian option. The crust and toppings of the pizzas were soft, fragrant and flavourful. The Norma pizza was surprisingly delightful and packed full of flavour, and the 4 Cheese pizza was delightfully savoury and sweet. However, the pastas we ordered were not al dente and lacked in flavour. The pasta was so strangely soft, kind of like eating udon. Not sure if they forgot to add salt, but it could definitely do with a bit more. I usually prefer dishes to be less salty so they were really quite bland. I understand that Italian food is about letting the ingredients shine but nothing about the pastas stood out in terms of flavour. The "white lasagna" was the most confusing dish - not sure why they only served a thin slice of lasagna on a flat plate with bechamel sauce, pistachio crumbs and pesto. We actually wondered if the server brought us the wrong dish upon seeing that thin slice. What made it worse was that it costs $36 (before gst svc) for that thin slice they call lasagna. If you're wondering which photograph below shows the lasagna, you can refer to the caption and hopefully understand my point. I'm not sure if the meagre serving size is to leave people wanting more or to make up for its blandness. Nothing about the lasagna left us wanting more, it was saved only by the homemade Sicilian chilli oil that the servers brought out. Even then, it's a really mild chilli oil so if you're hoping for it to cater to our usual asian spice levels, don't get your hopes up. But I must say that the chilli oil complemented all the dishes really well.
Service: All the servers were friendly and greeted us with a cheerful attitude. They were also enthusiastic about the dishes. However, the place was PACKED even on a Wednesday evening, so even when the time came for our reservation, the table wasn't ready and the guests were only told to leave after we requested several times to be seated. Would recommend for the restaurant to start imposing a dining time limit during peak periods and to alert guests that there are upcoming reservations so they can make way for others.
Atmosphere: No other way to describe it except that the place is NOISY. We could barely hear each other speak. The blasting of background music also doesn't help. Was hoping for a comfortable dining spot but it's truly difficult to sit down and enjoy food when the surrounding noise levels are akin to a hawker centre. Please work on the noise absorption. The place is also very dimly lit - we needed 2 table lamps to see the menus clearly and take photographs of the food. If you're looking for a place to catch up with friends, this is alright but you'll probably have a hard time hearing each other. A romantic date is probably out of the question considering the noise and how packed...
Read moreAfter eating many different pizzas from different places, I thought I had tried em all. But Fortuna proved me wrong, in a good way, with a unique take on pizzas. The pizzas here are like no others. The dough is exceptionally fluffy, airy, stretchy and flavourful, made even better with lightly charred parts (due to being baked in wood fired stone kiln) to add complexity to the taste. The pizzas here or the Wood Fired Bread, made with 50 hours of fermentation, are must-tries. I will never look at pizza the same way after an outing here. In fact, this is the only place I want to go back for the pizza. Yes, I had never feel this way about pizza before, until Fortuna.
The place has this upmarket rustic, homely vibe to it, with camel brown plush seats, white-washed walls, cylindrical lamps embossed with swirling patterns and dome-shaped shelf filled with wine bottles. By the way, this restaurant is almost full house on a lazy Tuesday afternoon. And at night, this is like the hottest cool spot in town, with the hip and cool people coming in to hang out at here.
Service is wonderful, being friendly, professional and helpful. And one of them, a handsome guy who is full of smiles, can âread my mindâ to know exactly which cocktail I want to order when I briefly say my preference. Love his recommendations. Totally enjoy myself here!
Baby Diavola is Baby size pizza, coated with Italian DOP San Marzano tomato spreadâthe Prada of canned tomatoes, Fior di Latteâcowâs mozzarella and sprinkled with Brasil. This is so flavorful and light in texture due to the unique pizza dough. Yes, best pizza! And it tastes amazing and out-of-this-world with the special Fortuna Chilli Oil.
The moment I pinched the Wood Fired Bread, Iâm surprised by how light, moist and soft it is. And I know this is going to be real good. When paired with Fortuna's special Ricotta Mantecata, this is pure happiness for my palates. This dip is out of this world and unique that has me swooning in delight. There are so many harmonised, subtle flavours packed within, from the toasty spiciness of Fortuna's special chilli, smooth creaminess and tangy taste of ricotta, mild sweetness of honey. This is a must-try.
The Spaghetti here is so different from the other spaghettis, and in a good way. Raw Mazzara King Prawn tartare served with the spaghetti is creamy, springy and briny sweet, going very well with the flavourful bisque, perked up by the lemon, Fortuna Chilli and parsley. The spaghetti is of perfect al dente texture and is uniquely, slightly curly to hold in more of the slightly spicy sauce.
Babba' Nepoletano feels like Italian angel cake, being so soft, light, fluffy and airy! The taste is made intense by the rum and luscious by cream. Amazingly, a floral sweetness develops at back of mouth as I savour the dessert.
Thoughts: Rustic, satisfying, authentic yet unique Italian food and...
Read moreWe went to fortuna to celebrate my boyfriendâs birthday, did mentioned in the reservation that it was a birthday dinner, and throughout the whole dinner there were mini performance where the staffs will bring out a small cake for whoever was having a birthday dinner there, but nothing special was done to us so Iâm not sure why they even asked in the reservation. Also, we sat at the dining area in front of the bar, it was so hot and humid the whole time, despite knowing the aircon is already turned to 16c from the staff, but even the toilet was cooler than the dining area.
Food wise, we heard very good reviews about the food here but honestly it wasnât that amazing tbh. We ordered the calamari, woodfire bread and ricotta dip for appetiser. The woodfire bread and ricotta dip was nice but nothing amazing, the calamari was crispy and nice but was overly seasoned with salt and was extra salty with the sauce that comes with it. But I gotta admit that the chilli oil was the saviour of night. Then we ordered what was highly raved online for the mains as we thought it wonât go wrong since many people loved it. We had the mafalde, lasagna and 4 cheese pizza. They served the cheese pizza first as there wasnât enough space on the table, the first bite was really really nice my boyfriend liked it alot, but after the first piece we got really sick of it that I didnât even finish it cause it was so sweet and cheesy. Then moving on to the mafalde and lasagna, it was such a huge let down. The mafalde was actually alright, the pasta was good but the sauce was so mid and there was only a few shreds of beef and pork, once again nothing amazing for $34 I expected something more ngl and the lasagna was so so boring, all I can taste is a pile of dense dough and cheese we both didnât like it at all because itâs just so flat and boring (totally not worth it), we had to opt for takeaway after eating 1-2 mouth because ITS $36.
What was more frustrating was when we asked for takeaway, the waiter just put it in a plastic takeaway container(those you get from hawker centres) and just put it on our table without a takeaway bag, expecting us to just walk out with a plastic container. We only got a carrier after asking for it like isnât it a given to be putting the takeaway in a carrier. Honestly I expected a better service for such prices, to add on they took so long to serve our food that i was just scrapping the chilli oil flakes and at some point they didnât even notice when we finished our bottle of water until this another waitress(this tanned skin lady) saw it (she was actually a lot nicer than the one who served us). It was such a disappointing dinner, service wasnât great, totally not worth it. Would...
