When ever I have this craving for Putian style cuisine I would always patronize FuZhen seafood at Blk 283 Bukit Batok. As they have that authentic Putian taste and affordable price. But, I guess the inflation had really hit them hard.
I had ordered a Putian traditional braised noodle (卤面)and their famous deep fried yam cube.
The braised noodle potion was good for 1 person and the noodle is very springy and has a very different as compare to other zhechar stall. The taste is still good especially when you add a bit of black vinegar. Savoury, natural sweetness and sour taste from the vinegar. The peanuts gave you a different level of taste. Still one of the best that I had tasted.
The only issues I have is, the ingredients used is so pathetic. I found 2x lala, 2x small prawns. Pls see my picture. Vegetables used was also not alot and the pork belly was sliced so thin that you can hardly see. I just don't really understand why they want to cut their ingredients till this level. Reputation at state. That is why the 3 Star rating.
The deep fried yam is super crunchy outside and soft inside. Paired with a sweet and sour sauce on the vegetable it gave the yam a refreshing taste. Nice. But it cost me S$10... Hahahah. Not cheap.
Overall, I felt is a nice place for traditional and authentic food. Maybe just have to let the lady boss know to place more ingredients ah... Will pay for it...
Read moreOne thing I like about this place, they will serve food even if it is between lunch and dinner time. Wife and I visited twice at between 2 to 3pm.
Round one. We had steamed fish, side of vegetables and butter prawns. Seafood was above average in terms of freshness. I noticed that the food tends to be a bit saltier, so if you wish to, I suppose you can ask for less sodium. I remembered total costs around $40+, which is probably in the ballpark for seafood.
Second visit. On our first visit, wifey noticed they were having curry fish head promo at $15.80. Hence we found ourselves back again. At that price, you get half a fish head and plenty of the usual sides inside the rather spicy (to me) curry broth. The fish was quite fresh, firm flesh with a hint of sweetness. We also added a side of tofu topped with deep fried mushrooms. The tofu I found to be just ok. This time we spent around $20++.
Will we be back again? That depends on my dear wifey. My feeling is she will drag me back here again one...

Tried the stir fried dry hor-fun and stir fried seafood vermicelli , it was well seasoned and had good wok hei flavor. Shrimp paste chicken wings were crispy and fresh , coated with excessive batter similar to tempura style crusts , recommended.
However do avoid soups when dining at this place as the soups were underwhelming . We ordered fish maw soup & bitter gourd soup , it was bland and under seasoned . Oysters used in the oyster omelets had a slight funky taste and were not very fresh.
Overall a good place to eat out if you're planning to order single portion dishes such as fried noodles ,fried rice and not forgetting the prawn paste...
