I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the service I received during my recent visit to Jurong Point outlet today. Unfortunately, my experience fell far below the basic standards I expect from a reputable restaurant like Genki Sushi.
While I was seated, I was looking for a staff member to inform them about a special order I had for the Teri Fried Tofu. A staff member named Jovie walked by to pass me my condiment order. Upon noticing I was looking in her direction, she responded with an unprofessional, "Why? Cannot wait ah?!" in a confrontational tone, as though she was picking a fight. I was quite taken aback by her tone, but I refrained from further confrontation and replied light-heartedly, "Can, of course, can wait."
I then proceeded to inform Jovie about my special request to have the bonito flakes removed from my fried tofu due to dietary reasons. Instead of accommodating my request, she responded with an eye roll and remarked that I always made this request. This comment was not only inappropriate but also unnecessary. The app does not offer an option to make such special requests, and as a vegetarian, I have no choice but to make such requests in person. After making this comment, she walked away without offering any further assistance.
When my order finally arrived, the fried tofu was served with bonito flakes, leading me to believe that she did not bother to communicate my special request to the kitchen. This oversight added to my frustration and disappointment.
I strongly urge Genki Sushi to invest in proper training for its staff to ensure that they maintain professionalism, courtesy, and respect towards all customers. We, as customers, are merely asking to be treated with the basic standards in the service industry. I believe this is not too much. Regardless of whether it is peak or off-peak hours, basic courtesy should always be upheld. I also encourage your team to review the feedback on Google Reviews and take regular actions to monitor the service standards at this outlet.
On a positive note, the only staff member who displayed professionalism was Mr. Ray, whom I believe was the older gentleman who sounded local. Given that both Filipino Jovie and the Filipino female manager are working in the service industry, their attitude were subpar, and I strongly urge Genki Sushi to invest in proper training for its staff to ensure that they maintain professionalism, courtesy, and respect towards all customers. We, as customers, are merely asking to be treated with the basic standards. I believe this is not too much. Regardless of whether it is peak or off-peak hours, basic courtesy and mannerism should always be upheld. I also encourage your team to review the feedback on Google Reviews and take regular actions to monitor the service standards at...
Read moreThe food was beyond questionable. I'm seriously concerned about this shop’s food hygiene. To put it bluntly, the quality at this outlet is rubbish, compared to other Genki Sushi outlets. I dine at Genki about once a week, and this was my first time trying out the Jurong Point outlet. The food quality, service, and atmosphere at other outlets are way better.
Food Rant: I ordered salmon sushi, a salmon handroll, mentaiko mayo fries, and udon. Unfortunately, I didn’t take photos of the salmon, but the salmon slices for both the sushi and handroll tasted like they weren’t sashimi-grade, more like the kind you'd buy at a wet market. Normally, salmon sashimi is slippery and has that fresh taste to it, but the salmon here was cold, dry, and tasted like it had been sitting out for way too long. This was honestly the worst salmon I’ve ever tried, even the 50-cent takeout sushi from Sushi Express is better (no shade to Sushi Express though, they have really tasty sushi for the price). But compared to that, paying $2.90 for this Genki salmon sushi/handroll is a joke.
As for the udon, the portion was pathetic, barely six strands of noodles. The soup was way too salty and cold. Then there was the mentaiko mayo fries. The fries were like DROWNED in oil, some were super salty, some were bitter. You can see in the picture how sad the fries looked, cold, soft (but not in a good way), and tasted awful. They've obviously been sitting out for a long time.
Service Rant: It took them 25 minutes to serve my fries, and it wasn’t even busy, only about 1/7 of the tables were occupied. They forgot my order and I had to walk up to remind them. And if you think I’m just unlucky, check out the other reviews for this outlet, lots of people have had similar issues. Honestly, if you’re going to make me wait that long for fries, at least make sure they’re decent. I wasn’t expecting piping hot, fresh-out-of-the-fryer fries, but just something edible.
Atmosphere Rant: The vibe at this outlet is just off. It feels like an "abandoned" shop. The lighting is weirdly dim, and the whole place feels so depressing. I don’t know how else to describe it, but it’s very different from other Genki outlets. It also seemed understaffed because there were tables covered with used plates from previous customers, and they didn’t clean them for a solid 30 minutes.
Disclaimer: If you’ve had a good experience here, great! This was just my personal experience, and as a frequent Genki Sushi customer, I’ve never encountered food and service this bad. Based on the many other negative reviews, I’m certainly sure that I'm not alone. Dine here at your own risk, but I really hope anyone reading this has a better...
Read moreOn 28/5/22,i bought my parents to try genki at jurong point for the first time,i had good experience from other outlets and thought i would have the same here too but to my disappointment, it was a let down on the services, lady at the table infront of us was getting up to get her food (okonomiyaki stick) from the train which was situated at the third level, when she was taking it off,the train begins to go back, she did not manage to catch the plate and the food flew off to our table and landed onto my mum's dress. The mayo and sauce smeared all over my mum dress and they did came immediately to ask what happen ,then proceeds to just clean up.While it is not anyones fault,we thought that we could have at least gotten a sorry that this happen as my mum was visibly upset.
Even though they were swift to clean up,it was not cleaned, the bonito flakes were still on the sofa and some sauce residue, thus we left that seat empty and switch sides. The manager just explain that the kitchen will allow the train to go back when the food is unattended for a period of time.Overall not a very pleasant experience,we quickly ate and left, hope that it shall never happen to anyone as there wont be any sort of compensation or even a single apology, have to deal with it...
