Honeybee Haji Lane — Restaurant in Singapore

My boyfriend and I favoured this place a lot, it was our go-to place for raw honeycomb, and it was our second/third time visiting. However, while dining at Honeybee Haji Lane yesterday, we overheard one of Honeybee’s staff include a derogatory term for Indians, starting with K ending with ling, while engaging in conversation with his colleague. My boyfriend is Indian. As he confronted this fellow staff member, he gave the excuse “i never say that, I didn’t say you” and proceeded to ‘apologise’ “eh sorry la”. Besides the casual racism (ironically 2 days before RHD), the low effort and rude apology wasn’t appreciated and felt patronising. Terrible experience here and we will not be returning, which is unfortunate, because we had fond memories in the two times we’ve been here.

Out of undeserved courtesy, we will hold back the name of the employee who was involved in this interaction. However, please forward this message to your employees at Haji Lane so this message may find him ;

There isn’t much we want to say. Except the fact that it was hurtful to hear such a slur even in the modern age where forward thinking is being encouraged constantly. As a paying customer, I was taken aback when I heard it, as I wasn’t sure what I had done to be called that. Especially after we travelled to the shop with the intention of getting something and not just chancing upon it. Felt like our efforts were in vain after the experience. Finally visited Honeybee after major cravings for their Pistachio Kunafa Croissant w Ice Cream! Maybe because it was a Grab pickup, it was quite a wait. And the store is pretty small w limited seats.

However, all of that was ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT! The Pistachio Kunafa Croissant was delicious! Saw many people going for the ice cream with honeycomb, but personally, the combination of pistachio, kunafa and croissant is irresistible to me! Do wish for a little bit more ice cream to make every bite more balanced.

Good sweet treat for a hot day! Got both the honeycomb icecream and cheese corn. The ice cream at the top had a nice honey flavour because of the honey drizzle, but towards the bottom it was just vanilla. The pearls were quite hard for my liking. Loved the combination of the soft ice cream and crunchy cornflakes. The honeycomb was smaller than expected, but the wax was soft enough to eat.
