Craving for some Sam Lo Hor Fun, headed to Hong Kong Street Chun Kee, located at Alexandra Village. Located within a coffeeshop, this well-known Zhi Char stall has a steady stream of customers without the crowds of ultra popular places. Ordered a serving of Fish Fillet Bee Hoon and a serving of Fish Head Bee Hoon. The Fish Fillet meat while firm lacked wok hei. However, the Fish Head was extremely tasty and had excellent Wok Hei. This difference in 2 similar dish shows the inconsistency of the kitchen. At least the Soup and Bee Hoon was yummy. Added a serving of Country Bumpkin Beancurd which had a nicely pan-fried Tofu with a wonderful gravy and vegetables. A delicious dish but a little pricey. After the above, realise that the main aim of the visit was forgotten but by then the stomach was sated. May return at another time to try the Sam Lo Hor Fun. General Verdict: Simple Zhi Char stall specialising in tasty Stir-fried dishes Opening Hours: Daily 11am-2:30pm and 5pm-10:30pm Queue Situation: Generally filled but no queue Price: SG$6 upwards Payment Mode: Cash, Local Internet Banking by QR code or AMEX (Singapore) Pay Items Ordered: 1) Item: Fish Meat Bee Hoon 珍記魚肉粗米粉 - Small Serving Description: The Fish Fillet meat while firm lacked Wok Hei Verdict: Acceptable, Order only if you want to try Price: SG$7 2) Item: Fish Head Bee Hoon 珍記魚頭粗米粉 - Small Serving Description: The Fish Head was extremely tasty and had excellent Wok Hei Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$6 3) Item: Country Bumpkin Beancurd 鄉下老豆腐 - Small Serving Description: Nicely pan-fried Tofu with a wonderful gravy and vegetables. Delicious dish but a little pricey Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$12

Many families flock to this shop for dinner gatherings.  Recommended dishes are framed within posters above the open kitchen.  Very fast service even in peak hours.  Stall will ensure that all yr dishes are served in order...so do make up yr mind and order all at one going.  Else the wait for late additional order could test your patience. Food worth trying... Steamed Song Fishhead - slightly spicy and savoury sauce accompany the fishhead that is not overcooked.  Fresh Fish-head can be had if one can time your visits to whenever they replenish stocks... but I am still trying to figure out the schedule Har Jeong Gai (Prawn Paste Chicken) - perfectly fried chicken that resembles goreng pisang. Do eat with their self-made chilli sauce Sweet n Sour Pork - fav with adults n kids....crispy prepared version in nice bite-sized portions Sam Lo Hor Fun - a matrimony of broad white rice noodles with sliced fish and beansprouts...can be a bit tad heavy on beansprout servings Cereal Prawn - nicely fried prawns in a blanket of crispy cereal that has a hint of curry leaves n chilli padi flavour Fishhead Slice Noodle Soup - another fav dish that would be cooked altogether when sufficient orders are in. My preference of "fishhead vs thick fish slice", "thin vs thick beehoon" are the ability of the formers to better absorb the sweet savoury broth Dry Fried Kway Teow - prefer this over Sam Lo Hor Fun (hint: check if chief chef is preparing, it has better wok hei) Sambal Kangkong - good dried prawns and chilli sauce with kangkong

My food rating guide: 2.5/5 ‐-------> Average taste 5/5 ‐--------> Scrumptious! (My comfort food! 🤩) Fried rice with salted fish was nice. Was a tad mosit. Got wok hei, savoury, generous amount of fried salted fish bits, and the beansprouts gave a refreshing taste that balanced off the saltiness. Spinach with beancurd skin was mediocre. Sauce akin to CNY pen cai sauce. Crunchy fresh spinach. The beancurd skins mostly couldn't soak up the sauce and were on the tough side. Chun Kee pork rib sauce was nice, but the pork was on the tough side. Chun Kee prawn paste chicken was excellent. Crispy, juicy, and had fragrant prawn paste taste. The cold homemade barley drink in the coffeeshop had the taste of home. Dense, filled with barley fragrance, not too sweet, and has a tint of pandan fragrance. Not a good place to dine in. The very loud noise caused from the plates and bowls collision when the staff were throwing these plastic tableware into a bin while clearing tables was very disturbing. Takeaway is recommended. Recommended items 👍: Chun Kee prawn paste chicken (4.5/5) Fried rice with salted fish (4/5) Cold homemade barley drink (4.8/5) The meal averaged a 3.9/5
