Didn’t realize this restaurant was here and finally got to try it out. Went on a Sunday evening and wasn’t sure if reservation’s were needed. We called and they informed us no reservations needed. When we arrived (~6:30pm) it wax quite empty and for the duration of the meal. We sat outside because the weather was nice. There is a lot of outdoor seating but there is very limited indoor seating so keep that in mind for bad weather days. The set up is really cool. I love the signage and the location. The menu is pretty simple and food prep is “so so”. The bolognese was over cooked and a bit small for an entree. The lamb chops were more than 50% fat (not rendered or crunchy). The side asparagus & potatoes were over cooked and super oily. The special wings & fries were nice but it’s hard to mess up fried food. I saw a lot of people getting the steak and burgers so I think next time we would go for that instead. The pizza also looked pretty nice, it looked freshly made and a nice sized portion. If it was just food I was rating I would give this place a 3. The real highlight/prize is the drinks! Several cool unique drinks on the menu and and added bonus of happy hour every day from 5-8pm! What a score! We got a couple drinks just because and they were good…interesting but good. Some of the specialty drinks even come with a story that the waiter tells you as they prepare the drink. Overall a good bar & grill type place with ok food, good drink options (specials) and a cool vide. Great if you live near the area or if you are taking a walk through Hort Park. There are bus stops not to far so you can easily get here from the main road (near ARC mall or Labrador Park). We would...
Read moreI brought my family to Hopscotch last evening for a casual dinner. From the look of it, it’s quite a hip place with many youngsters, couples and friends catching up on a Saturday evening. The place is almost full. After we got our table, immediately we realised that this place has no Plan B when the weather turned against us because the sky is now overcast and windy and seems like the rain is going to pour anytime. Luckily, the night went on cool and nice. The restaurant is severely under staffed on a Saturday night and this affected their service. We ordered a plate of Hyogo Oysters, Razor Clams, Lobster Bisque, Roast Duck Pizza, Mushroom Risotto, Chicken Roulade, Halibut and Roasted Brussels Sprouts. The Hyogo Oysters are fresh, big and they are very good! The Chicken Roulade is tasty and is the best dish for the night. The chicken thigh is tender, stuffed with spinach and mushrooms served along side potato mash. The mushroom risotto could be better. It tasted more like mushroom soup with half-cooked rice (like Al dente) and cream. Also, the chef could have put in more effort when cooking the Fish and Chip (Halibut). You could taste the “frozen” smell of the fish. Oh, I would advice against ordering the Razor Clam. One look I could see they used the smaller frozen razor clams and they are either overcooked or very tough. One last thing, as the place is dark, you will not be able to see what you are eating, unable to read the menu to order your food or even to check and sign on the credit card bill without using your phone torch lights. I would give this place a 2-star if not for the oyster and the chicken roulade. Would I visit the place again? ...
Read moreSuper pleased and satisfied with our visit at Hopscotch. Majority of the seats are outdoor seatings, so I’m not sure how things are managed if the weather turns sour but weather that evening was great! We had bookings for 7pm and enjoyed the sunset accompanied by a cool breeze.
Additional surprise is that I could use burpple 1-1 promo for a wide selection of food items (excludes pizzas and platters) and drinks including cocktails were on happy hour promo from 5-8pm!
Went for 2 of their meat selections - pork ribs and lamb chops. For carbs, we had the chilli crab pizza. Pork ribs was super tender and flavorful, a must try. Chilli crab pizza had a decent amount of crab meat. The crust is more biscuit like instead of your typical Italian thin crust pizza. Lamb chop took awhile to be served, it was slightly charred and had way too much fats for my liking. So that was a slight letdown for me. For drinks, we had a cocktail each. I doubt there’s a bad cocktail as each has its own creative twist to it. Mine was called Garden by the bay which had a nice dry ice display when it was served. The other cocktail was refreshing and tasted like a alcoholic version of a mango sago dessert. Contrary to what the waiter said, I would recommend ordering the drinks after finishing the mains as it is a star by itself and should be enjoyed by itself.
Overall, love the chilled open air vibes of this place at relatively affordable prices. Would come back to try the other mains and cocktails! (Total bill with promo and charges came up to...
