The mark of a good Indian restaurant I believe is not necessarily its size, but the experience, ambience and the service provided by its staff. Along those lines, some of the experiences I've enjoyed have been in small to medium sized places which I've sought out which have been scattered throughout the many districts located in and around Singapore. The Murugappa Chettinad Restaurant is among these little gems.
Located in the busy district called Jalan Besar on Upper Dickson road this interesting and really pleasant restaurant can be found.
Upon entering, you'll understand why it's so popular. It's as though you've stepped into a time capsule, a warm and friendly atmosphere which provides an element of being more than just a typical Indian restaurant.
There's a great selection of Indian foods, ranging from vegetarian and traditional meat curries full of spice and sumptuous flavours. I sampled the Mutton Biriani, which consisted mutton, biriani rice, salad served on a palm leaf. Ordered biriyani & it wasn't a dum. That may not be a serious one but the mutton masala he served was indeed bad. The mutton was too hard.no doubt the meat might have been from a very matured old sheep. It gave me a doubt that if I was eating a plate of beef. There is a saying that in order to reach the customers heart it's essential to reach their stomach. The restaurant seems to be unmindful of these basic concept.sustainability is possible only when they take some efforts to improve. Food needs to be cooked with love & responsibility. That is where their success would reach its summit. Totally...

One thing that disappointed me was they moved people around ( while eating) from one table to another to cater for a larger group of people. After lunch I was having tea and I had move too. It didn't really bothered me so much but that's the culture here trying to maximise space. There were two guys standing outside ( must be owners I guess) were very apologetic and repeatedly said sorry blah, blah, blah. Oh well, it was worth the food and I came back the following week to try their fried fish. I would definitely...
