17 Sep 2021 - takeaway during Post Circuit Breaker Phase 2 (preparatory stage).
Food 3 stars. Service 4 stars.
Tired their signature lor mee but with red mushrooms this time. The mushrooms give the soup/gravy a reddish colour but not fantastic in terms of its taste. Can stick to the normal one.
Also tried their deep fried yellow croaker. Good portion size and not too oily. The fish has a citrusy aftertaste, not sure if it's supposed to be like this as it's my 1st time trying this item. I personally prefer the deep fried tenggiri fish to this.
Service is friendly as usual. But they're always overly anxious to take the takeaway container I brought along into the kitchen, before I'm done with all my requests. 17 Dec 2020 - takeaway at 6pm during Post Circuit Breaker Phase 2. 3 stars.
Ordered the oyster pancakes 海蛎饼 that's part of their oyster festival. Tasty but rather oily. Picture on menu doesn't look like the actual item.
Male staff taking my order was rather anxious to bring my container into the kitchen before I could pay and get an order number at the cashier. 24 Nov 2020 - dine-in at 6pm during Post Circuit Breaker Phase 2. 3.5 stars.
Staff are quite diligent enforcing safe management measures, but there's quite a bit of duplication as I get asked to take my temperature by both the staff at the entrance of the store and another leading me to me table. Tables are spaced out wide enough so that different tables aren't too close to each other. But they should stop children from shouting and running around the restaurant when the parents don't.
It's good that they offer resealable plastic bags to customers but I see some people just throwing them on the table, not using them to store their face masks, making it a wastage.
I had the lor mee today and it's full of ingredients as usual, but the soup was rather salty today - I'm guessing maybe from the saltiness of the clams. 29 Dec 2018 - dinner for 2 persons 3.5 stars
We arrived at the restaurant at 5.30pm when they're supposed to be opened for dinner but had to wait another 10 minutes before their staff were ready to attend to the dinner crowd waiting outside. Not the service standard expected of a Michelin star restaurant.
Enticed by the offerings they currently have for their oyster festival (until 31 Mar 2019), we ordered the Braised Oysters with Fragrant Basil, Putien Lor Mee, Beancurd and Cabbage in Broth, and Sweet & Sour Pork with lychee.
Food was generally tasty enough but some items didn't look as they did on the menu - eg. Beancurd pieces were bigger and with prawns instead of dried shrimp for the beancurd dish, but the robust flavours in the broth made up for it. Serving sizes were quite substantial for the small servings of what we ordered, especially the oyster dish and we enjoyed the basil taste with the oysters. We did like how the food's natural tastes and sweetness came through without being heavily seasoned. Sad to say there were only 2 lychee pieces in the pork dish and there wasn't any lychee flavour on the pork itself.
Table service was a lot more pleasant compared to what we experienced at the door. And servers are conscientious in asking about any food allergies we might have.
Food prices are mid-high range for Putian cuisine in a casual restaurant setting. Ok if you're in the vicinity or wanting this...
Read moreWent for celebration on the 7th day of CNY. Poor management, quite a few staff and restaurant was surprisingly only half filled, yet overall service was below average and food quality had also dropped significantly. We called to place order over the phone a few days before and reconfirmed again when we reached the restaurant before our guests arrived. However, 3 different staff came separately to confirm with us with regards to whether we want lohei, which was already confirmed and asked to serve. Staff seemed lost and was checking with one another if we ordered even though we saw that there was a digital system that recorded the items ordered. Our table was for 10 pax so we requested for two bag holders as there wasn't enough space to keep our bags and the lady in charged of our table said there isn't enough to go around even when the restaurant is in fact less than half filled. We ordered a jug of drink and it was placed on the table with 4 empty cups and we were expected to serve ourselves until we asked for service. A few staff needed second reminders when we asked for things and even our guests commented that the service there was bad. With that being said, thankfully there was still one young lady who was genuine and helpful and we gave her an angbao to thank her for her service. Just to add on another negative experience with the same branch, two staff hinted and prompted us to write good Google review for them during and also after our meals which I did not eventually as I did not feel that their service attitude was good enough, not to mention sincere at all and true enough they showed their true colours when they saw that we did not write even after being pressurised. Nonetheless, my mum decided to give the restaurant another try this CNY and sad to say, we were disappointed again. To be honest, I pondered for a few days even before writing this review as it was a hassle to give the many details, but I do sincerely hope that with this long and painful feedback, the Putien management can take it seriously and do something to improve the standard of this branch to be more consistent with the other branches that we had good experiences with. Before that happens, I guess we won't be recommending this branch...
Read moreI am very disappointed with the service that tampines branch staff has provided. I ordered longevity buns telling the male staff that I am celebrating my mil birthday today. There was no birthday song or any staff came fwd to wish her happy birthday. In fact next table was celebrating birthday and yet the whole putien did not even play the song. Everyone seems to be oblivious and when I gave the feedback at the cashier the lady called the China manager and they simply asked the male staff to come forward and questioned him in front of us. Is this how a michelin one star restaurant operates. I do not get this kind of service when I visit paya lebar branch or parkway branch. In fact parkway staff gave me a wonderful experience to my family and sister when we celebrate over there. What's the use of giving me a card to say we will give u a fruit platter on your next visit and I will give u a grand celebration on your next birthday. She talk as if we celebrate birthday every other day. The fact that such a thing happen means that the manager has failed to manage the branch well and lack of training for the staff as one pushes the blame to the other. The pointing finger game right in front of customers is the worst. Please train your staff well. It will be the last time I ever step foot to...
