Secret Recipe is not a new find nor a terribly exciting or social bait venue to dine at. It should be a household name or favourite — it is for our lil family who adore this unassuming embracing comforting gem — but it's not quite the trending rave or goto restaurant. However, to us it's the one place at Toa Payoh we are not only familiar with but we know will please the whole family.
The modestly priced food and its spread of selections of Asian and global food staple favourites are really good. The Vietnamese Beef Noodles Soup that I tend to order most often has one of the tastiest authentic beef broths that I not only will slurp over but can easily have more than one bowl happily. The generous mixed beef that comes with it is satisfying and when paired with their tarty punchy green chilli sauce it's just soulfood comfort. My son prefers the other Special Beef Noodles, with the lighter broth that is sweetened by the well boiled radish, which ironically and frustratingly — to his green loving dad —he doesn't eat! Naturally ending up on daddy's bowl to be finished. What a waste for they are delicious so I don't complain. My wife — who lunches there often — likes their Grilled Mexican Chicken dish as it is flavourful and is just really good. My daughter likes the pasta as they are tempered with just enough local spice to better suit our palatte. Again, Secret Recipe never fails to please the whole family.
We are not complaining that they are never packed — they should be! — for we know we can always get a table; especially the booth by the window with a view. It's not a noisy busy harried place and that's why we love it. Just slow down and savour while you're there.
We always round off our hearty satisfying meal there with their wonderfully yummy selection of cakes. But we always reserve some space for their divinely mood lifter dessert of Shinjuku cake. It's sweetly a plate of warm embracing joy for us.
Do bring your friends, kakis, colleagues or family over to dine there. It's just a lovely gathering...
Read moreWhenever my craving of Tomyum Spaghetti kick in, there is only one place where I should go... And yes the secret it out, its in Secret Recipe.
The resto is offering a fusion of Western and Asian Halal cuisine. They have variety of cakes to choose from and what I can recommend is Banana chocolate cake and chocolate indulgence, plus of course my all time favourite the brownie with ice cream on top, it's just mouthwatering.
For the main course, i will still browse the whole menu to check what's new, but my mind is settled with Tomyum Spaghetti. The spicy minced meat is just flavourful, once served on my table, I cant resist but to dig in right away as the aroma smell makes you more salivating.
The place in toa payoh is one of my Fav Branch to visit, because the ambience is more relax, a perfect place for you and your friends to chill.
Secret recipe is like a place to go if you are not sure what to try on a specific day, because they a wide range of menu, even kids will surely enjoy it also specially the cakes.
This resto is actually all in one, from cake, good coffee and shakes, a western and Asian cuisine offering and of course your good halal neighbourhood cafe.
So I am giving this cafe a score of 8.5 out of 10.
