🌿 Teochew Cuisine Review | A Flavorful Journey into Chaoshan Delights 🥢 📍Location: Tucked away at unit 117, this charming little restaurant immediately draws you in with its greenery-lined facade, vintage rattan chairs, and warm string lights. The cozy and artistic ambiance makes it an ideal spot for both intimate dinners and casual hangouts. 🍴Dishes Tried & Reviewed 1. Pork Tripe and Chicken Soup A hearty and nourishing dish. The chicken is tender, the pork tripe chewy and well-cleaned, and the broth rich with ginger and peppery warmth. Comforting and deeply satisfying, especially if you’re feeling under the weather or just want something soul-soothing. 2. Grilled Pork Belly Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The aroma of charcoal grilling lingers in each bite. Paired with chili sauce or a squeeze of lime, it strikes a perfect balance between savory, smoky, and slightly tangy. 3. Teochew Beef Ball Soup A classic must-have. The handmade beef balls are springy and flavorful, served in a clean and slightly sweet broth with crunchy greens. Best enjoyed with garlic chili dip for an extra kick. 4. Marinated Raw Crab (Sheng Yan Xie) The star of the night! This raw crab is marinated in a spicy, garlicky, and umami-rich sauce that penetrates deep into the flesh. Silky texture, bold flavor — a true delicacy for Teochew food lovers. Not for the faint of heart, but absolutely worth trying if you’re up for something adventurous and authentic. 5. Cuttlefish Sausage (Mo Yu Chang) A distinctive Teochew specialty. These sausages are made with cuttlefish paste, offering a chewy texture and a mild seafood sweetness. The taste is clean and unique, with bits of crunchy water chestnuts adding an unexpected but delightful contrast. 6. Sparkling Lychee Drink (Pink) Light, fizzy, and refreshing. This drink helps balance out the rich and bold flavors of the meal, acting as both a palate cleanser and a sweet treat. 💬 Special Thanks to Leo, the Restaurant Manager A big shoutout to Leo, the incredibly warm and attentive manager. He made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable with his thoughtful recommendations — each dish not only looked amazing but also tasted fantastic. His enthusiasm and care truly reflect the heart of the restaurant. ✨Overall Impression A wonderful dive into Teochew cuisine — authentic, bold, and comforting. The dishes are thoughtfully prepared and presented, and the cozy ambiance elevates the entire experience. Whether you’re new to Chaoshan flavors or a longtime fan, this spot is definitely worth a visit. 📌Rating: ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️(5/5) 📸 Tip: Snap a photo in front of the beautiful plant-covered entrance — it’s totally Instagram-worthy!

From the moment I entered this hidden gem, I was enveloped by a wave of warmth, a sign of the homely and cozy atmosphere that awaited me. With its tastefully rustic decor, soft lighting and comfortable seating, this restaurant is an embodiment of a charming home, a place where comfort meets class. The service staff deserves a standing ovation. From the friendly smile that welcomed us at the door to the servers that attended to our every need, the professionalism and warmth was second to none. They were incredibly attentive, demonstrating perfect timing and incredible knowledge about the menu. Each dish was served with a perfect balance of personal space and care, making us feel both respected and well looked after. As for the food, "amazing" does not even begin to do it justice. The menu presented an array of exquisite dishes, each harboring a tantalizing surprise. It was akin to an adventurous journey where each dish revealed new dimensions of flavors, textures and culinary creativity. The chef’s talent was clearly evident in the harmonious blend of diverse ingredients, each dish a testament to their mastery. The presentation of each plate was an art form in itself, colorful and visually delightful, teasing the senses even before the first bite. The creativity did not stop at the presentation; each bite unraveled new depths of flavor. It was clear that quality ingredients were chosen with care, cooked to perfection, and served with love. However, the one hiccup in this otherwise flawless dining experience was the parking. The restaurant is located in a secluded part of East Coast, and finding parking was quite a challenge. While this might be a bit of a turn-off for some, the extraordinary culinary experience was worth the little bit of extra effort.

Was super excited to visit this place cause they had bbq crabs?!! And I miss those i had at Seremban. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Yes, the crab had the promised yellow roe but when handling crabs, one has to be careful to wash it clean. Especially if you are putting the sauce on the outside and expecting people to lick the shell abit to get the flavours. The crab was full of MUD. What I thought to be sauce turned out to be mud. Please see the pictures below. I understand sometimes when Bbqing crab, you cannot cut it first to prevent juices from being lost during the bbq process but they didn’t even cut out the gills which had tiny parasites on it. Ewww. Also pictured. One would expect that your signature dish be properly cleaned and processed but, disappointed. I also had their paofan. Which was passable. Paofan is made with crispy rice but the rice came already in the pot which made it soft despite me braving the hot soup and stuffing a big spoon in my mouth once it reached. Ambience wise, outside seating is amazing and if you’re going, I highly recommend you book outside seating. Parking is also a pain as the whole street is filled with cameras for parking enforcement but people don’t seem to take it very seriously ( until you get your LTA letter! ) and still park along the road. I do recommend the paofan as a dish for cold weather but the crabs, stay away. Probably the marinated crabs would be washed properly? Do try and let me know. Prices are reasonable for $68 a crab but in case you get a tummy ache ingesting mud ( unless you’re a chicken who need some sand in their food to aid digestion ) Probably if I find more paofan shops, I will not be visiting again.

Had an incredible dining experience here this Christmas! The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between modern elegance and cozy charm, making it an ideal setting for family gatherings. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. We had the Pan Seared Hokkaido Cuttlefish with Squid Ink - it was a delightful start, with its unique texture and rich flavors pairing wonderfully with the fresh greens. The Pan Fried Shrimp Pancake was perfectly golden and paired excellently with the dipping sauce. Each bite was a testament to the chef’s attention to detail and quality ingredients. The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the SHAO Signature BBQ Roe Crab, served with zesty lemon wedges—it was fresh, succulent, and bursting with flavor. The umami of the crab roe was exceptional, delivering a richness that was almost reminiscent of uni. To round off our dining experience, the Mixed Seafood “Pao Fan” in Modern Teochew Style was hearty and comforting, with a perfect balance of textures and flavors. The added touch of a soup refill made the experience even more satisfying. Special mention goes to our waiter, who provided exceptional service throughout the meal. They even served us their home-made belacan, which was incredibly flavorful and added an extra kick. My only complain was that parking was impossibly hard to find. It might be wiser to just take a taxi. Overall, SHAO 然 exceeded expectations, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional modern Teochew dining experience. Looking forward to my next visit!

Very good service by the male server - forgotten his name; I attached the receipt. The food is a good as it was 3 years ago 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Nice ambience, comfortable seats & tables. Food tasty especially the seafood pau fan (10/10) and super crispy mini pomfret fish (9.5/10). The sour plum drink was nice at a 8.5/10. The warm yam dessert was not overly sweet & has a nice sticky paste; a solid 8.5/10. Came back again a week later. Sunday 20th July (2024) 3 pm to 4 pm 👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼 Review #2 Review #1 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 Decent ambience. Nice air-conditioned. Drinks cold barley, hot & cold honey lemon were 8/10. The crispy skinned roast pork was good 8/10. Kai lan fried vegetable 9/10. Stems were soft & crunchy. Other skin shaved off. Their signature dish, fish soup with burnt rice (slight burnt mixed with white rice) was 10/10. A definite repeat. Fish was plentiful & very fresh. Well prepared 👍🏼 Super crispy fried baby promfret was great 10/10 plus ⭐️ Sliced sausage stuffed with squid & its ink. Best eaten warm. It drys up & get a bit hard if left out too long. 7/10 rating. The desserts were mango pudding, traditional yam with gingko nuts and coconut ice cream with black glutinous rice pudding (9/10). A bit pricey however dishes were above our expectation. Will have to re-visit to try signature fish soup dish again, the fried promfret. Visit 3 years ago during the pandemic as from the 2nd review.
