Decided to come by after hearing raved reviews from a friend. The ambience was dark toned coziness and elegant, and service felt personal (or at least before it got crowded and echoy as it became full house).
The Rollin' Dosas with mini crispy dosa cones filled with chicken chukka, mutton masala and braised fish was served with a trio of curries - coconut and cashew, spinach and tamarind. The curries complemented the flavours of each dosa, where my personal fav is the coconut curry. The Garlicky Sage Naan was super crispy and fluffy; and delicous by itself or dip the pieces in the curries.
Ball shaped dumplings, the Pecking Panniyarams are stuffed with pulled duck masala and coconut sambal. They had a savory fiery kick in them with subtle hint of sourness from the calamansi chutney. The Patti Poppers are bite-sized sea bream potato patties served with truffle hollandaise. They were crispy and packed with tender flakes of fish, with an added touch of crunch from the black disc. Overall, I felt it was a tad dry and could do with a little more sauce.
The Baa-Baa Biryani was served with creamy beetroot raita. The biryani was presented in an opening act of theatrical apple wood smoke infused in the fragrant rice. The beautifully spiced mutton was fork-tender and delicious without evident gaminess to it; and the basmatic rice was fluffy and moist. The raita and pomegranate pops helped to cut through the heaviness.
Ending with the Smouldering Sweetness, a burnt house-made cheese with blueberry compote paired with a unique frozen paan delight. It was a mixed of delicate and floral profile and fragrance that linger on in my mouth after a few bites. Adventurous but not for me.
Other than ala carte, there's a course menu...
Read moreGreat ambience and good service, but food has some opportunity to be better. We went with some friends and tried quite a lot of things. We ordered Chutney platter, Dosa poppers veg and non veg, Idly manchurian, Kandahar kofta , frit me not ( Onion fritters), Claypot rice, Kathal biryani, Navratan kurma, Chicken charm( Chettinad style curry)..
Starters were really good. A fusion twist on your Dosa - Dosa poppers were creative, mutton stuffing was soft and juicy. The curries that came along were also very different. Cashew, tamarind and a 3rd flavor.. Kandahar kofta was so soft and melt in your mouth consistency.. Onion fritters were standard stuff. Chutney platter was also very different.. served with hot mathri like bread we polished off the plate. Main course was a different story. That's the reason I'm rating this a 4 and not 5.. Claypot rice - both veg and non veg were good but i expected more in terms of flavor. I'd not complain but I'd not call this exceptional..The chicken was soft, quantity was less, just about right for one person.. They did not even serve raita when asked.. The Chicken curry , and Navratan kurma was also just ok - I didn't find anything special in these. Average stuff.. Kathal biryani was a standout in main course. Other main course items were forgettable.. Overall id recommend this place for a one time visit. Try their starters and cocktails, sure, but main course,...
Read moreDinner with friends at the curry club turned out to be a lovely night. To begin with the food was unpretentious and humble yet elevated in terms of presentation. Flavour wise, spot on for most dishes.
Do not expect your typical Indian crowd pleasers here (no naan and butter chicken yall) but what they offer they do it well. Our table favourites were the black pepper tofu, chilli garlic prawns, prawn paati soru (essentially a one pot spicy rice) and the mutton murtabak (we requested for less mayo dressing and it worked out just nice). The prawn paati soru was spot on with the right spice and flavourful prawns.
The mutton paati soru was a miss as overall I felt the spices kind of over powered and left you tasting very little of the rice or mutton. I didn’t care for the carrot halwa either.
The ambience and music deserves a mention, I really enjoyed the covers Tamil of hits, kinda sets the mood nicely. A tad too loud if you are looking for some peace and quiet conversations, but personally I loved the music.
The service was top notch too. They were friendly, informative and attentive. I hope they keep this up.
The price is a bit on the higher side of Indian cuisine but you get what you pay for. I think it is justified to pay the price for the over all quality of food and service offered at curry club.
Overall, highly recommend this place for some good food and drinks...
