I had previously (slightly more than a year back)dined-in at this outlet before and had a rather good impression of the laksa, so I made my way there to get takeaway for my son as he was craving for laksa. From what I vaguely remember and looking at some online reviews, I wanted to add a crayfish to the laksa this time, but the staff who took the order gave me a funny look and said I was at the wrong place and they never had crayfish on their menu. I was puzzled so I changed it to add more prawns (the other option I saw in the review), and again was told there wasn't this option. I was like ...there were photos accompanying those reviews, so the reviews were all for the wrong place ??? But nevermind, I found that I can add more fishcake or cockles though (which were also options in those photos).
Back home, the takeaway was a disappointment. The laksa gravy given, though separately packed was very little and when poured into the noodles, it filled slightly more than half of the container (refer picture and note that the container used wasn't a huge one). I think you probably get more (quantity) dining in than taking away. In spite of that, the laksa gravy is tasty and flavourful, but on the dilute side. Also added an otah on the side. Wanted to add a chicken chop, but was told that it can't be sold separately unless I buy it with rice.
Laksa was ok, but attitude of staff taking orders could be improved, knowing more of how your menu has changed or evolved and explaining politely to customers is the way to go rather than giving them a funny look like this is the wrong Katong laksa shop you have come to, it's probably another one you are talking about...
Read moreExtremely disappointing and appalling experience when I went to dabao laksa for parents during the circuit breaker. Brought along my own container (in a bid to be more environmentally friendly & to help F&B companies save on plastic containers, bags & cutleries..) instead, heard the kitchen hand exclaim in a mocking and condescending way “wa, why bring such a big container, so huge?” And the lady at the counter did not seem to welcome the idea of me bringing my own container since she mentioned if i bought the laksa with their plastic container I will get MORE GRAVY (a round of applause, seems like they get a bigger profit when they sell the plastic containers!). The soup given to me was also really pathetic (even though they separated the noodles and the soup). Making me wonder if I was penalised for bringing my own container and for being environmentally conscious. bought 4 pax and was only given soup enough for 2 laksa. My elderly parents thought it was dried laksa. I didn’t know...
Read moreMy cousin who has been living in Aust all his life wanted to come n try one of our local food…laksa!
I found this thru Google n did read the reviews but Bcos there was kinda mix of opinions, decided to give it a shot.
I HAVE TO AGREE wholeheartedly w the negative ones. The gravy was sooo diluted and the prawns? Omg! Tiny morsels n staff were extremely stingy with the portion of ingredients they put into each bowl. Btw I bought the bigger serving size!
So this shop failed TERRIBLY in terms of taste n portion. But I have to thank them for being such a miser also Bcos given the “standard” of the laksa, I wldnt b able to finish it all too if they had been generous.
It was utterly embarrassing bringing a foreigner to this shop. Jus avoid it at all cost! If I cld give...
