This place food is alright I feel, I've been to here a few times in fact for their signature claypot mama tomyum noodle. But one thing that I find it obnoxious was the blond mohawk guy (which i believe is the owner of the shop), I wouldn't say he's harassing the customers or giving very bad treatment, but more like being over aggressive to customers by trying to make them come back after finishing their meal. If he's just giving a statement like "hope you liked the food and will come back soon" then it's acceptable cause most other food places does that so it's normal. But this mohawk guy aggressively interacts with the customer in a way that forces to the customer to have a interaction back and it goes like "how do you like the food", customer replied yes, mohawk guy says "you better come back to this place again then and bring more friends along since the food is good". When I heard that happening to the table beside me, my mood just instantly dropped because that way of interaction builds up an awkward situation and those customers went stunned and speechless cause they didnt know how to respond after that too. It also gives the impression that I am being "forced" to come back AND bring more friends with me which was not a nice impression. And it wasn't this occasion either, several times when I was there also few months back and couple of years, I noticed his interaction with the customer is always the same aggressive type. Maybe he's just trying to portray a very friendly attitude to customers but I think his definition of "friendly" might not be ideal to some people especially newcomers or complete strangers. Do note that some people (not all) just want to eat, fill their belly and leave without having a forced conversation with someone else they hardly know about. My recommendation is it'll be a much greater atmosphere and pleasant service for all audience if this mohawk guy just gives a statement to the customers with the hopes of the customer willing to come back on their own free will instead of indirectly forcing them to come back verbally. Even though it's obvious its a joke, but its the way he said it and the tone he used which sounds aggressive and may not appeal to all types of people (some people might take it literate and not as a joke). It might even be a turn off to some people due to the way they are being treated after having a good meal which honestly can spoil or ruin the whole...

TLDR: cheap food, expensive drinks, tastes so-so only. good vibes with friends, can try but not worth in my experience.
5 pax available. a bit crowded but seats available and waiting time only around 15 minutes. We got lured in by the charismatic uncle at the front of the restaurant to try their authentic thai dishes.
he strongly recommended their tom yum (we got pork 1 bowl is $9.90). we also got their "signature wanton mee" ($5). we understand why he didnt promote their singature is cause it doesnt taste nice lol. we also ordered 2 thai iced coffee ($3.90 each. yes each.) and 1 thai green milk tea. ($3.20).
red flag 1: how come authentic thai restaurant has singapore dishes like wanton mee and japanese onsen egg? nonetheless we like trying fusion food.
but their signature wanton mee ($5) no kick one. average quality like your normal hawker one considering it is their signature. 2 boiled wanton, 2 fried wanton, 4 pieces of pork and some greens, large amount of egg noodles. is a bit dry also, then their staff came over to our table, muttered they got our order wrong, and walked away.
we had online ordering which is quite convenient so we chose their thai sauce for our wanton mee. is that why is so dry? maybe staff forgot to put sauce.
red flag 2: we can customise our tom yum soup ($9.90 for pork, $14.90 for seafood) spicy level, and sour level(???). now we realise. is just the MAMA brand of instant tom yum noodles? they use the packaged powder is it? tastes the same, except they add some chilli flakes, lemongrass, some spices. the soup got cold quick in the air con, tastes average only, ingredients only so-so. not transported to thailand, cold reality is the cold tom yum in the claypot.
then their drinks can also customise sugar level and ice. our iced coffee ($3.90) 50% sugar level still so damn sweet. not enough of the fragrant tea flavour. thai iced green milk tea ($3.20) also is so-so, very sweet like bbt.
clean toilet with toilet paper inside. nice wall murals to look at and cool air con. just wish the...
Read moreMy family and I stumbled across Tom Yam Mama while looking for a place to eat around Upper Thomson, and we ended up pleasantly surprised. We were welcomed in by Uncle Ben, who confidently promoted his food in a direct, no nonsense approach. His recommendations indeed did not disappoint.
We tried the signature spicy crab fried rice (no joke, it does not look spicy but it was quite spicy!!), claypot tom yum noodles, mamas fried chicken (HUGE pieces and very crispy), Thai wanton noodles (onsen egg was a great addition), stir-fried spicy kang kong (don’t forget your veggies), Thai milk tea (caution! very sweet, but just like what you will get in Thailand) and lemongrass drink. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice and coconut ice cream with gula melaka.
Mains — I recommend all Dessert — for mango sticky rice, I felt that the glutinous rice was well done, but the mangoes were extremely fibrous which I did not like. Nonetheless, the ice cream with gula melaka was the standout. The two flavours were paired really well together, and it was so rich and creamy!
The food was served quite fast and the place was bustling with people, which felt a little like a market in Thailand. Sauces and cutlery were also self-service, which added to the casual, authentic feel. I felt that everything was worth its price point too.
Came on a Sunday at around 1.30pm, and just nice they had a 4 seater table so we did not need to wait/ queue thankfully.
All in all, a satisfying experience with bold flavours and great variety. As Uncle Ben confidently promised — I’ll...
