Unagi VS Salmon — Restaurant in Singapore

100/10. my go-to place for mentaiko salmon! here's my honest review after patronising for a while.

food standards: i've patronised frequently, and their quality and standards are well-kept. consistent portions and flavor. i'm picky with salmon but their mentaiko salmon is fresh, delicious, thick and juicy.. just perfect. thank you for always satisfying my mentaiko salmon cravings!

ambience: comfortable and welcoming, my ideal place to dine in alone when i'm out alone. interior is aesthetically pleasing, great ambience, plenty of seats. makes me feel like i'm back in korea :)

price: 9.90 base price with complimentary tea/ miso soup. affordable for students like me.

service: owners are always friendly and welcoming, food arrives quickly. they provide refills of the soup!

overall, if i could give them 10 stars, i would. this place never disappoints me. (ps: their mentaiko salmon portions are much more generous and fresher than cough salmon samurai). i'd always recommend this to...

Homely food with good sauces and service. Unagi Mentaiko w Mixed Red Rice ($9.90+$0.90 Tamagoyaki). Spicy Garlic Salmon Poke Soba ($9.90).

Unagi: Had some well-charred parts, but didn’t taste bitter. Gave a good crunchy dimension. Wasn’t overly sweet, nor too rubbery. Mentaiko w Cod Roe: Tasty and not overly salty. Tamagoyaki: Simple and nice, nothing wow. Mixed Red Rice: Pretty normal, wasn’t japanese-y. Main item that could have been improved.

Salmon Sashimi: Fresh and well seasoned and sauced (not overly). Soba (cold): Wonderfully sauced and seasoned. Liked the pepper that gave it a good kick (wasn’t spicy). Lettuce: Fresh and crunchy. Tomatoes: Fresh and chilled, but pity that quite a number were not ripe. Salmon Mentaiko Maki ($9.90): Simple, and rice didn’t feel like sushi rice. Hence just okay.

Green Tea: Could have stronger green tea taste. Miso: Well flavoured, not too salty. Pretty generous with the little ingredients given :)

What a delight to bump into this cosy cafe. Staffs here were really friendly and helpful. Went on a weekday for dinner, ordered Unagi VS salmon. Salmon and salad were really fresh. Well marinated Unagi. Soba was cooked just nice. Came with free hot tea and free flow of hot soup. Perfect to warm my stomach. And it's a perfect combination as well. Huge portion for just $15.90 what else to complain? Friendly staff repeatedly asked if I want to refill the soup. ^.^ (I thought this gesture is nice because sometimes i feel embarrassed to ask for more.) Left the café with happy and full tummy!
