Went there for lunch. Had 3 course choose your own dishes menu for €22. Well executed, gastro pub food, traditional dishes and ingredients, mostly with a modern touch. Home made wood fire oven bread, more than generous portions. Wine by the glass is nicely priced as well, had a orange Malvasia from local winemaker Atimo for €5, which if calculated was about the same price as if one bought the bottle at a neighbouring shop. Service was extremely friendly, taking its time to explain everything, possibly at the expense of other waiting customers. So probably id not go if I were in a hurry. It’s a place that could be great… We were seated and orders taken quickly. Beverages served soon enough but then it all went down from there. The starter must have taken at least 20 mins and the main took another 30 mins… Our friend’s soda didn’t show up until meals were delivered and they got his main dish wrong. Friendly, delicious food and charming location! Everything you need to spend a great moment in Kranj. As we were there on a Sunday, they served only one menu with two options (3 or 4 courses). But as often, the smaller the menu the better! And this was definitely the case at Gostilna Ivan. Home made cuisine, local and seasonal vegetables as well as meat and traditional soup and dessert, we even had the chance to taste a delicious Slovenian wine proposed by the waiter.
