The rooms are spacious and boast a stunning view of the surrounding mountains. While the location in Gozd Martuljek is picturesque, it suffers from a lack of winter sunshine, with rays only managing to peek through for a fleeting moment due to the towering peaks nearby. For those seeking more sunlight, a short trip to Kranjska Gora is highly recommended. Our check-in experience was delightful, with the receptionist providing a warm and efficient welcome. However, breakfast left much to be desired. The selection was limited, and while fresh orange juice was available, it came at an additional cost. The bread, unfortunately, appeared underbaked, almost raw. Three egg dishes—omelette, fried eggs, and scrambled eggs—were on offer, each with optional add-ons. Yet, the portions of these additions were meager at best. A sprinkle of bacon or a hint of vegetables is hardly sufficient to meet expectations, especially for a 4-star establishment. Oddly enough, the only ingredient served generously was raw onions. The concept of an open kitchen, allowing diners to observe the preparation of their meals, was intriguing. However, this was marred by a lack of professionalism from the staff, whose candid conversations about guests, workplace grievances, and personal matters were clearly audible throughout breakfast. Slovenian guests, like ourselves, were barely acknowledged upon arrival at the dining area, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere, whereas foreign guests were greeted warmly and seated with enthusiasm. Such disparities in hospitality are disheartening and unbefitting of a property with this rating. The New Year’s Eve dinner featured an eight-course menu, which, regrettably, was nothing special. The dishes lacked depth of flavor, and the overall execution fell far short of expectations. Adding to our disappointment, the chef was visibly engrossed in his phone for the majority of the evening, casting doubt on his involvement in the preparation of the meal. Given the €160 per person price tag, we anticipated not only culinary finesse but also a celebratory ambiance befitting the occasion. The live music, while a thoughtful touch, further dampened the mood when the singer performed Stairway to Heaven moments before midnight—an odd and somber choice for such a festive evening. Meanwhile, the staff’s handling of sparkling wine was puzzling, as glasses were poured at a nearby table, leading us to believe they were meant for us. At the very least, offering guests a glass of sparkling wine before midnight, even at an additional cost, would have been a fitting gesture. By the time dinner concluded, we felt a sense of relief, retreating to our room to watch the countdown to midnight on television—a subdued end to what should have been a memorable...
Read moreThis restaurant was our preferred dining establishment for an extended period. We consistently made significant financial investments and consistently provided substantial gratuities. However, upon the introduction of a new staff member, an atmosphere of arrogance became excessively prevalent. We strongly advise against adopting this approach. In our opinion, this restaurant is no longer suitable for our patronage.
Added after reply ————————— The response from the restaurant suggests that we did not respect its policy. However, I would like to clarify a few important points.
First of all, we have dined numerous times in the area described in the reply as “intended for drinks and light snacks,” and we were often directed there by the staff themselves. On our last visit, we booked a table for lunch for seven people by phone, as usual. When we arrived, the outside area of the restaurant was completely empty. We waited for some time, and when no waiter appeared, we selected a table with the most breeze — the weather was extremely hot, and we had two small children with us.
After another extended wait, my wife went inside to find someone. When a waiter finally came out, he addressed us with notable arrogance and completely disregarded my questions, showing no interest in hearing our explanation for choosing a breezy table rather than one pressed against the wall.
To reiterate: the outside dining area was entirely empty.
In conclusion, it is unfortunate that such a wonderful hotel in a magnificent location, with excellent cuisine and breathtaking views, would employ someone whose attitude does not reflect the establishment’s otherwise...
