Gostišče Madonca - Rooms & Restaurant — Restaurant in Nova Gorica

We just came from Venice and I can easily say that the food at this restaurant was the best meal I’ve had yet! The family who runs it takes obvious pride in their dishes — all local wines, local salt, local olive oil, local beers, etc. One of the sons was our waiter and his knowledge of wine was as good as any 5-star restaurant I have been to. We just went with his suggestions and he did not disappoint! He was the only one waiting on diners that night and he did an incredible job with a very full restaurant! We never felt rushed and we felt very well-attended-to. The presentation of each dish was a work of art and the dessert was out of this world (I don’t usually eat dessert but I couldn’t stop eating this one)! We also stayed at the rooms owned by the family who runs the restaurant and we felt so welcomed and taken care of. Tonight was our last day on a 2 week stay in beautiful Slovenia - and me and my fiancée can both, without a doubt, say that, by far, our dinner tonight at Gostišče Madonca was the best dinner we have had during our trip.

Whilst everything we ate was excellent, the T-Bone steak we shared was just... Sublime.

The service was also very, very good. The waiter was respectful, clearly knowledgeable about the beverages and the food, and seemed to genuinely care his guests.

Location wise, the restaurant lies along the street leading to the border crossing to Italy. It is easy to get to, and there is a parking lot for guests just beyond it. You don't hear the traffic outside even from the outdoor serving area, due to a wall.

This restaurant, near the border of Slovenia and Italy, was on our list, to be specific, on my wife’s list, after we started living in Nova Gorica.

We visited it on a special day of our life and the dinner there made it more special. We have been travelling occasionally and have visited numerous good restaurants serving great food. However, the food experience in this one was a bit special.

We tried soup, fish, meat, wine and of course their special desserts (pictures included). They all were delicious. They serve food with great passion and utmost care and explain every bit of it as if food is their religion.

Yes, it’s a bit costly than the other restaurants in the locality, but it’s worth it. It was a great experience for us and we highly recommend it.
