I had high hopes from this place having read some glowing praise from an American living locally but the experience was disappointing. The food was barely average, lack lustre and lacking in flavour. The owner made a point of saying that he makes the food as it would be made at home, and that he makes it to suit the tastes of Slovenians - but there is some very good authentic international food in Slovenia these days and I find that many Slovenians enjoy flavours that are not typically Slovenian. To us, the flavours lacked depth and were indistinct. On top of that, the place was not clean. Table mats were ragged and sticky, there was a dresser piled with dirty plates yet we were the only people there, and the women's toilet was grim - the bin was overflowing with used sanitary towels (I simpy cannot believe that this place gets so busy that the bin could have been full from just one day) and I felt grubby coming out of there. It didn't look to me to be a place that gets cleaned very often. I only hope the kitchen is more hygienic. The whole place needs a good clean and a refresh - the furniture is dated and the decor tired. The owner sat in the restaurant seemingly watching someone on a laptop with the sound up, which was a bit intrusive. Had the food been tastier, the prices would have been justified. No receipt was issued. We were just told the total when we...
Read moreThis is something else! You are served by the master chef in person, he makes sure that you feel not as a restaurant guest, but a guest of the family, the atmosphere is very amiable. You probably don't know 90% of the food on the menu, so go for the Arabian Mix and try all of them in small samples. The same goes with sweets, their mix offers you 6 different samples. ... we found hibiscus-and-jasmine iced tea very tasty and refreshing. ... go for the Arabian coffee, thank me later. :) Main theme of all of the Tsnim's food is that at first you get a taste that you sort-of expected, but then the aftertaste comes and fills your mouth with a variety of combinations - all in one bite. Another thing that shows the quality of the chef is how far does he go with the details. If the salad and other vegetables are chopped into tiny confetti, this means the chef wants you to get all the richness of taste. This is what you get at Tsnim's. Oh, yes, and it's, obviously, halal, so no alcohol and no pork. Which we didn't miss anyway, we had too much fun exploring all the new tastes from Syria, "The Cradle of...
Read moreGreat to find somewhere a little different to eat in Slovenia. We had never tried food like this and were impressed by the flavours. From the outside the restaurant does not suggest the treats inside, but hold your judgement until you have met the cheery chef/waiter. No alcohol is served but good fruit juices and other non alcohol beverages are available. I was surprised that I did not miss my conventional beer or glass of wine. (Probably felt better for it -at least could drive home with a clear conscience). Prices are VERY reasonable. We had a malice. Chicken in a pot of flavourful yoghurt with a spiced rice alongside. We shared a delicate salad - not the usual pile of lettuce. Two flavoured waters then a coffee and a tea (served in pretty cup and glass) with, I think, a touch of cardamom . Excellent ! €16 for two. My wife didn't want me to review -- She wants to keep it for...
