Iām giving this 3 stars based on what I know the experience is capable of.
With this being the first Mythos in Cape Town, Iāve only visited the branches in Pretoria before - Irene Village and the one in Umhlanga Rocks.
Let me also add that Iāve been to Greece and experienced traditional Greek food in its purest form.
On a good day, Mythos comes really close to replicating the true Greek experience of fresh and tasty Mediterranean food to be enjoyed together.
I booked a table at Majik Forest via their website earlier for 6:30. We arrived and were promptly seated. The setting is as beautiful as any other Mythos restaurant across the country.
We were quite keen on the seafood and noted on their website that thereās a 25% off special on the Meze platters on a Monday. After ordering our drinks, I enquirer about this and the waiter informed me that they arenāt running it here as they havenāt loaded it on their system yet. Really? How long could loading a special possibly take.
We then asked about the platters again as my kids really wanted prawns. The waiter then informed us that they may be out of prawns or may not have enough left. He comes back to take our order, I asked him again if theyāre really out of prawns and he confirms that they donāt have any prawns. Disappointingly (only because the kids wanted prawns), we go with the Meat and Veg Meze platters respectively with a side of brinjals
Apart from the raw onion slithers being scattered on the top as garnish, the meal was great. We finished the platters and my family enjoyed it.
Before ordering dessert, I noticed the table next to us (who arrived about 45 minutes after we did) served by the same waiter, received a generous serving of Prawns. When the waiter returned to our table, I immediately questioned if the prawns had come back in stock now. I was then told that they went to get some prawns from Turn n Tender, opposite the road, but that this has since run out now as well. Why couldnāt they go barter with Turn and Tender when I asked as well?
Anyway, this was annoying but we still proceeded to order dessert. The dessert was a hit among the family too.
Anyway. The point of my review is this: Mythos is a great restaurant overall. Mythos Majik Forest clearly still has a lot of teething issues. If this were a family run restaurant, Iād have some sympathy. However, youāre backed by Famous Brands. Surely you only open a restaurant when itās actually ready? Liquor license.. POS systems synced or in sync.. and sufficient stock!
Tonight kinda felt like a family business that rushed the opening to get the most of the festive season.
Thank goodness the food was good and weāve been to other...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNo. Just no. We spotted this restaurant a few weeks ago and both being Greek food lovers, my wife and I decided to finish the day's activities and have our anniversary supper at Mythos. We made the booking which was quick and easy and showed up on time. The staff greeted us and Bongani and his manager were good. Then the drinks and starters arrived: We order Pina Coladas - which looked like dishwasher water in ice. I had a friendly chat with the bar lady and manager - they use a water based cordial (think Oros). It was extremely bitter and had a very very slight coconut scent to it. I explained how one should be made, showed pics and gave a recipe. The manager stated he's had this disagreement with the restaurant owner but he's forced to follow rules. When our starters arrived, I knew then that this was a short-cut restaurant. 2.1 Mussels in garlic sauce - the sauce was made from garlic powder and onions. Mussels were overcooked and the sauce gritty, powdery, bland and disappointing. Nothing fresh. 2.2 The squid heads and the pita bread were quite good. 2.3 The Halloumi - man...I don't know what they did to it. I think there was some form of Halloumi added to it - but somehow it was watered down so badly that though it had the appearance of halloumi, it tasted more like under seasoned firmly cooked scrambled egg.
We decided to cancel the meal and go elsewhere. I can not jusitfy and will not accept spending money on mediocre food and an insult to Greek authenticity and traditions and freshness.
While the service was good, staff friendly, manager helpful and restaurant neat and colourful - the food is very disappointing (and expensive). This is an owner issue. It's clear whoever is calling the shots is out to make a quick buck and not have their customers enjoy Greek culture, cuisines, flavours, aromas, etc.
And to you, I say: νĻĻĪæĻĪ® ĻĪ±Ļ !
Shame on you for insulting Greek heritage and robbing...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI ordered a take away in Jan. Ordered it rare, and also ordered a bunch of other stuff through MrD.
Food arrived but looked like something fell of the back of a truck. We couldnāt eat anything, Sauce and food all over and all meats were over cooked and tough!!
I called immediately, and Elliott the manager promised to get back to me and offered a refund. I phoned 4 times after that, and no feedback from him or a call back or any effort to even attempt to rectify the situation!! Phoned again today, and he said he would call me back, which off course, he didnāt!
We came to TnT which is also their restaurant and had dinner there and thought I would pop over to speak to him as since 12 Jan 2023 he has not rectified it or even bothered to sort it out and kept passing the buck to Mr D!
He then phoned Mr D infront of the whole restaurant, and had the person on speakerphone which was most embarrassing, and then refused to do anything and Mr D said its too late to do anything but I did bring it under their attention and he said he would follow up and he never did. I actually let out a few swearwords out of utter frustration with his utmost incompetence to rectify an awful meal that was delivered!! So he just shrugged and he couldnāt even offer a comp meal or ANYTHING to rectify the situation!! Pathetic!!
We spent R1600 at TnT between 2 of us and left a R400 tip, and our waiter was fabulous! Itās not about the money, itās about how you treat your loyal local customers and I can assure you I will write about this awful experience and humiliation on all the neighbourhood groups! ...
