We booked the New Years Eve 2021 Fine Dining Dinner experience, we were told that the dinner would start at 7pm and end off AFTER Midnight with a celebration glass of Champagne along with count down experience, it was all great when we arrived, welcome drink as promised, canapes started coming out and then we were seated to eat, the entire dinner experience felt extremely RUSHED, as if they were rushing to get everyone out by 11pm sharp which was confusing to what we were expecting by the countdown and celebration drink at midnight? the food quality was not great, the main dish was really good but the rest was not up to standard unfortunately. I am allergic to wheat, gluten and dairy and there are so many option that one can use as alternatives.. ( i informed the chef about this 1 month prior to the date of the dinner and was promised a separate menu to suite my allergies to which i never received, even after reaching out asking about it several times?) the chef instead just left all components out of each dish that contained gluten, wheat or dairy.. which left most of my dishes tasting as if it was lacking a lot, because it did.. there are multiple gluten and wheat free flour options as well as dairy alternatives, yet the chef did not have much desire, passion or pride in delivering good cooking for my food allergies. by 11pm everyone was very full as courses were so rushed, no palette cleansers, no time to savoir each dish, there was NO CURFEW! the curfew had been lifting, you could hear other patrons complaining that the experience was rushed, and why were we not doing the champagne and count down at 12 pm as promised? the waitress/waiters were nowhere to be found or seen moment the clock struck 11pm.. patrons realizing there wont be bubbles and a countdown experience, started getting up including us to go find their waiter to settle payment and get the hell out of there! it was a rushed, unpleasant experience. when we finally got our bill to pay for the drinks we had which was not included in the dining experience, we left and found that all the waitresses and waiters lifts home or out were waiting in the drive way and they were leaving before the guests were?? this was not a New years eve dinner celebration.. it was set under false expectations that were given, word of advice, if people choose to work on NYE it should not be a rushed affair so that they can leave before 12pm.. that's very unprofessional and unacceptable!! I too work in the hospitality industry on super yachts and there have been many years of me working till 2-3 am at night on Christmas eve and new years eve. very disappointed. beautiful hotel and scenery though, but unfortunately i will never...

My birthday celebration at The Conservatory last week was, unfortunately, an afternoon filled with disappointment and frustration due to a series of incidents that left us with a terrible experience.

When we arrived, we were rushed to place our orders quickly, as we were informed that the kitchen was closing at 2:30. This came as a complete surprise since we were not given any prior notice about the kitchen's early closure when making the booking online. It felt as if we were being hurried through our meal without any consideration for our dining experience.

Despite mentioning my halal dietary preference in the online booking, our waitress recommended a calamari dish to share, which we later found out contained pork. Not only was this a significant oversight, but there was no apology.

The service continued to disappoint when they brought only two menus for my group of seven, and they displayed a noticeable attitude when we politely requested additional menus. The waitress was in a rush to take our plates away, even though there was still food left on them. This rushed approach added to the overall discomfort of our dining experience.

To top it off, they brought us the wrong bill, which only added to the frustration and confusion of the evening. To make matters worse, my friend was charged the incorrect amount. The money was returned, but once again, no apology was extended for this grave oversight.

The Conservatory must take immediate steps to address these issues. It is essential that they provide accurate information about their kitchen hours to customers making online reservations. Furthermore, they need to ensure that dietary preferences are respected and that their staff is adequately trained to provide attentive and respectful service. Additionally, double-checking bills for accuracy is a fundamental aspect of good service and should not be overlooked.

In summary, my birthday celebration at The Conservatory was marred by a series of unfortunate incidents, which should have been avoidable with more attentive and considerate service. I hope my feedback encourages the restaurant to make significant improvements and provide a better dining experience for...

We’ve been to The Conservatory twice in the past two months for breakfast, and we can highly recommend it ☀️. Here are our reasons and a couple of tips for the restaurant:

Table reservations: It’s best to reserve a table in advance by phone 📞. Once, I went spontaneously and still got a lovely table.

Recommendation: Choose a table in the conservatory or on the terrace – the plant decorations are simply beautiful 🌿🌸. Tip: Ladies should be mindful of placing their handbags on the ground, as it can sometimes get slightly damp from flowerpots and water spills 💦.

Breakfast buffet: At first glance, the buffet might seem small, but it’s filled with a wide variety of fresh and high-quality food 🥗🍓. I particularly love the healthy options: fresh fruit, plenty of berries, delicious freshly squeezed juices, and even ginger shots 🥤. However, if you’re in the mood for a delicious scone with cream and jam, you’ll find that, too 🧁. My suggestion: It would be great if the restaurant added untreated oats and chia seeds to the menu – it would be a wonderful addition 🌾.

The egg dishes are prepared fresh 🍳. I had an omelet with peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms, which was fantastic!

Service: The staff is super friendly and attentive 😊. Coffee: The Americano and coffee from the portafilter machine are simply excellent ☕.

Highlight: After breakfast, take a stroll through the beautiful garden 🌺🌳.

All in all, The Conservatory is an absolute hidden champion for a relaxed and delicious breakfast 🏆. The wonderful atmosphere invites you to linger and makes it easy to start the day in a calm,...

The Conservatory Restaurant and Bar is probably set in one of the most beautiful settings you will find in Cape Town. The Constantia green hills make a lovely backdrop for the restaurant which is designed to give you a garden tea experience – and it works. There are massive glass panes to let in natural light and there are plenty of skylights to give you a sense of being close to nature. This is not a fast food restaurant so expect to wait for your food and have conversation – no WiFi connection was offered as is common in some other establishments. The menu is a simple one-pager and the recommended mains would easily be the rack of lamb or bobotie. However, these are best described as polite portions for the money and you are really paying for the environment and service. Speaking of service, Alice was sharp, polite and engaging – even at the end of her shift. The impression was that perhaps the lunch service was a bit crowded as we observed waiters moving faster than comfort would suggest to serve their tables. Finally, it was a very nice touch to do something special for birthday girls – they really appreciated that.

Tucked away in a lush haven, The Conservatory will transport you to a world of tranquility and delight. My breakfast experience was nothing short of sublime. The breakfast spread is a variety of cold and hot options to cater to diverse tastes. For those seeking halal and kosher options, the server will ensure your request is  accommodated. The Granola is the yummiest i have tasted, while the French toast infused with rooibos syrup, fried banana and pecan nuts with blue berries will leave you craving more. Eggs Benedict , Eggs Florentine and the Omelett was just as tasty. The service is warm and attentive, with friendly waiters happy to guide you through the menu. Consistency is key, and my second visit was every bit as impressive as the first. Be sure to plan your visit accordingly, allowing ample time for a leisurely stroll through the well maintained gardens. And don't forget your camera – endless photo opportunities. In short, The Conservatory is a must-visit.

We made a decision very late on a public holiday to visit the fantastic Cellars-Hohenort restaurant, Conservatory, to celebrate the recent success my wife achieved and I am so glad I decided on this restaurant! The setting, the service, the presentation and the quality of food were all exceptional as these photographs attest to. The amuse bouche was a very tasty butternut soup to start with. I would highly recommend the Springbok loin, the fresh line fish of the day, the ember baked celeriac and the bobotie! We enjoyed a run of the Mill Blanc de Blanc which combined beautifully with most of our dishes. The cost of having a meal here for a family of 4 might be steep but it is most certainly worthwhile as it is more than a meal - it's a full experience, as guests are then invited to stroll in the gardens around the beautiful historical Estate. We found the service to be professional and fast and particularly enjoyed Monica's chat with us...
