First time since ownership changed. All in all a very disappointing Sunday Lunch!! The only memorable experience was the waitress, as friendly as she has always been! The only option now available, is the 3 course meal!! Can no longer have just the buffet. Choice of soup was Tomato or Butternut. We all had the butternut, which was sadly less than lukewarm. The little vetkoeks to have with the soup were so filled with garlic margarine, which simply poured out when taking a bite!! Sadly, this venue has now gone to tiny 1 ply serviettes. The result, your entire hand is visible from under this paper thin excuse of a serviette. The meat today was 2 thin slices beef and a piece of fried battered fish was placed on top. The silver skin as well as the fish bones was a total NO in my opinion. Fish served before a main course - perhaps yes. Fish served on beef - NO!! The chicken strips with chips for my granddaughter were 5 little dark brown balls of chicken. Yet again, not up to an acceptable standard. We had asked for the fish & granddaughters remaining chips in a container, so we could give to the car guard. Waitress told us the owner said no - she will go and give it herself. The door leading up the stairs to gain access and depart was closed. Needless to say, my 85 and 88 year old parents had to walk up, and down the very steep wheelchair ramp!! I want to add, their ramp appears much steeper than generally encountered. On leaving, the owner came out as we had mentioned our disappointment to waitress. Suddenly there was a choice of roast chicken instead of fish - bit late to tell us when leaving! And funnily enough, I have just gone onto their Facebook page and there is NO mention of chicken??? Everything else was simply: "okay", and was told the fish was still on a plate in the kitchen for the carguard!! In all honesty, the fish was served on our plates, and not dished up from buffet, so the rule of no-take away is absurd. I can understand no take away of vegetables. Same goes with the chips, as this was not a buffet, but a paid for meal!! If you can take it from other restaurants, not sure what makes Pappa G's any different? So after many years of mouthwatering meals - all good things came to an abrupt end today!! We DEFINATELY won't be back!! More than willing to provide photos, if so required...
Read moreWorst dining experience of my 69 year old life, ever! I was there for a pre booked birthday party for the Sunday Lucnh Buffet. We arrived at the time of the booking only to be notified they did not book the seats we wanted and had to wait for a table to clear before being seated. 5 people. Once seated we wanted to start partaking in the buffet and found there was no plates. So we had to wait 5 minutes for our plates to arrive only to realize they dont have soup dishes either and had to wait an additional 5 minutes. When the plates finally arrived there was no starters to select from, only butternut soup (the soup was the highlight of the day together with the barmen). We then proceded to wait another 5 mins while they rushed to get us 5 samoosas and 5 brea**ls. In their defense they did bring us freshly made onion rings as a starter.... When time for the main meals came around we were greeted with 2 pieces of razor thin meat of some sort with 0 taste and a gelatinous gravy, 2 small pieces of roast potato and a piece of chicken that felt like it had been cooked into a state of beef jerky. With the mains you should have a selection of 6-8 veggies but once again when we got to the veggies there was only bland yellow rice and burnt pumpkin. They did however have the same gelatinous gravy available to make the rice palatable. When asked by the front desk lady how things were going i simply told her the beer tasted good and cold. When she asked about the food i very politely said that i had not enjoyed it at all. Her response to this was "Well go home and try and cook it better yourself." This was her response to a customer politely stating that the meals were sub standard. At no point had she shown any interest as to why i did not enjoy it. This was truly an horrible dining experience and i would highly recommend anyone to consider a packed of raw two minute noodles before dining...
Read moreWe went there for a birthday party on 5 December 2023. Tables were reserved for 22 people, but they were advised that it may be more. They didn't book us in the restaurant but rather set up tables in the hair salon, and also for less than 22. They had to set up another table in the smoking area. 10 extra guests arrived, and the manageress blamed us for the lack of seating, even though the seating was inadequate from the start. We started ordering food almost immediately, but some of the guests left 2.5hrs later without getting their food. Some of the guests, including me, only received their orders 3.5hrs later. The service was terrible. There was 1 young male waiter who was really doing his best, but the rest wasn't helpful at all. When the food started arriving, people complained. The 250gr steak was so small and thin that it looked like a patty. The chicken schnitzel was very thin and terribly dry. The birthday girl's husband complained to the manageress about the quality of food and the poor service, and she shouted at him saying it's our fault that too many guests arrived, that they were understaffed, the kutchen was under pressure, that they had other guests too, and that it would have been easier for them if we all just ordered the same meal. She even told him to keep quiet as he had too much to drink (which totally wasn't true). On top of it all, they rang up a 20% automatic tip onto the bill... I really feel terrible for the birthday girl that her evening turned out so bad. She could not enjoy herself, had to try and keep everyone happy, she was even running around taking orders. This place will not...
