I’m so disappointed with our recent visit (Sat,8 Mar 2025) to Anong which has been our favorite place for authentic Thai food in S.A after moving back from living in Thailand for a number of years. Our papaya salad (somtum) had no long beans or dry shrimp in it whereas before it did and just tasted like it lacked the flavors it usually has and even with asking for it to be spicy it was more of a medium heat. We had ordered a variety of our favorite dishes as we’re a family of 8 and every dish looked completely different to what it usually looks like with them now being filled to the max with different vegetables especially peppers in dishes like the Pad Kra Pao , Panang Curry and the Green Curry which to me tasted like a coconut version of chicken ala King with little to no green curry paste taste, the Pad Thai had absolutely no flavor of the the Phad Thai sauce and our Tom Yum was overly sweet with a thickish texture to the soup. I asked for it to be spicy and there was no heat at all. The service was terrible with our table being forgotten about multiple times that we had to get up and call the people at the till to please come and clear our table and please take our next order. Like I said for a few years this place has been a family fave of ours but it seems like it’s been invested in by new partners who have now watered away its authenticity that had previously kept us coming back. It’s as good as going to any other Asian restaurant that offers it’s own version of Thai cuisine. Very sad to...
Read moreWalked in had a reservation and got seated, we waited for 20 min before a waiter came to take our drink order. We waited another 20 min before he took our food order. Finally the food came one for one after 30 min. My mom’s main came, then my main, then one of the starters we ordered, second starter came, my dad’s order came and then my sister’s main came, after all of us finished our mains the final starter came. I don’t understand why they couldn’t bring the starters first as it’s a starter and then bring out the mains at once we all ate at different times and is not the point of going out as a family. We asked for the bill nothing came so we had to go to the front to at least be able to leave. Came in at 14:00 left 15:35 ridiculous even though the food was good the service was shocking.
Waiters were very friendly and were running all over the place, very understaffed and need some training. Staff also seemed very scared of the owners, the owner eventually came up to us and asked us if everything was okay we informed him the service was slow and all he said was okay and walked away.
I would not recommend coming here even if the food was good, felt very neglected and felt like we...
Read moreMy absolute favorite Thai food restaurant in Johannesburg.. I have never had a bad meal here and the owner, Tor, is a superstar in his own right. There is super value for money as the meals are carefully made with as much flavor as possible with the best ingredients. They have increased their prices recently and I feel this is justified for the portions you get because you wont leave there hungry. I booked a birthday at this venue and had quite a lot of requests but they were totally accommodating and due to this it was an absolute banger of an event! They charged me fairly and I still had enough food to feed an army.. was amazing! Be sure to try a Thai vodka and lemondade and see if its to your liking too. They have also recently upgraded some of the decor so they are invested in making the space even better that it already is. There is a Thai spa on the premises which also comes highly recommended. Lets help keep them alive and a stable part of the joburg...
