"Create Lonehill" is a popular ceramic painting studio located at the Prison Break Market in Lonehill, Johannesburg. It offers a unique and quiet escape from the typical city bustle, allowing individuals, families, and groups to unleash their inner artist. This venue is ideal for those seeking a creative and relaxed activity rather than a traditional outdoor experience. The positive aspects are immediately apparent: it's a wonderfully calm and engaging environment where you can spend hours lost in the joy of painting. The concept is simple yet effective: choose an unfired ceramic piece, select from a vast array of colours, and let your imagination flow. The staff are on hand to offer guidance and techniques, ensuring even novices can create a unique masterpiece. The on-site cafe, serving delicious coffee, cakes, and light meals, adds to the comfortable and leisurely atmosphere, allowing you to "sip and paint" or enjoy a bite while you create. It's a perfect spot for a tranquil afternoon, a thoughtful gift-making session, or a gentle team-building exercise. However, "Create Lonehill" isn't without its potential drawbacks. Firstly, it's an indoor activity, meaning it lacks the natural beauty and fresh air of a beach or outdoor park. For those craving movement or a connection with nature, it won't satisfy that desire. Secondly, the turnaround time for collecting your fired piece can be a significant waiting period, often several weeks, which might be frustrating for those looking for instant gratification. Finally, while it offers a creative outlet, the cost of the ceramic pieces can add up, making it a potentially expensive outing, especially for larger groups or if you choose larger, more intricate items. It's a niche experience that thrives on creativity and patience, rather than spontaneous,...

Well first I didn't get any food from here, but when I was walking around, the other tables food, smelt and looked amazing. So I'm going to go back and try some food while I paint and update then.

But oh my goodness, what an amazing idea, a fun outing and such a great bonding experience. I went with family this time but I've already made plans to go back with friends. It is great for many different age groups, I went with a teenager who loved it, all the way to an 80 year old who couldn't believe what a wonderful experience it was.

The wide variety in things to paint and styles to create is endless. Truly, anything your mind can think of, I felt like one could make. They also had little printed out pictures to help you trace images onto your crafts.

The staff were so unbelievably helpful, kind, caring and understanding. Truly some of the best service around.

The paint colors I found were a bit limited to create a pallet but it all works together.

The atmosphere is beautiful, the layout and style of tables etc feels extremely well thought out and helps create the inspiration necessary to create beautiful pieces of art.

The hot drinks we all had were fabulous and tasted incredible. It was also delivered with care.

Cannot rave enough about this place if you are artistic or not, it's...

I had a lovely time at Create in Lonehill! From the start, the customer service over WhatsApp was absolutely brilliant – responsive, friendly, and helpful, which made the booking process smooth and stress-free.

Once we arrived, our waiter Lloyd stood out for his helpfulness and hard work. He was attentive and kind, even though it was clear he had quite a few tables to manage. A bit more staff support would definitely help lighten the load and improve the overall service pace.

The painting section was a fun and engaging part of the experience, but it did feel a bit cramped. It would be great if the paint and brush area could be spread out more to avoid crowding – not everyone is great at waiting their turn, and it got a little chaotic at times.

One thing that could really elevate the experience is some form of crowd control or guidelines for guests. The table next to us was extremely loud, with people screaming and drinking excessively, which took away from the otherwise relaxing and creative vibe.

Despite those few hiccups, it was a fantastic outing and a memory I’ll cherish. The concept is unique, the atmosphere is vibrant, and it’s a great way to spend time with friends or family. I’d definitely recommend it – just with a few tweaks, it could be...

This cafe with a nice twist is located inside the prison break market in Lonehill. You get to choose a piece of pottery to paint while enjoying a meal and the ambiance. The place is well situated, ventilated and spaced. The decor is very light and pleasing to the eye. The waiters are so well trained, very polite, and knowledgeable about the processes and the food. The food selection is great and well priced. The variety of pottery items is vast. There's literally anything for anyone. Also, the prices are not so bad, the cheapest pottery item I saw was R120 and that includes paint and brushes. So for R500 you can paint and have a nice lunch but that obviously depends on what you choose to paint then the prices might vary. The best thing is that you keep the items you paint. The experience was awesome, it was therapeutic. I highly recommend for dates, family activities, and corporate functions. Please make sure to book ahead of time as they are often fully booked. I'll be making more visits to this place for sure.
