Bootlegger Chartwell — Restaurant in Gauteng

Imagine my excitement when I saw #Bootlegger Coffee Company opening up shop at the Chartwell Corner, literally a stone throw away from me.

Hooray! No more driving all the way to the Ferndale (Randburg) one, just to get my fix!

With that said…

A big shout out to the Manager of the new Dainfern franchise, Mark (his name, I think).

Bought a #SalmonBagel there fairly recently but when it was served, the #CreamCheese in it had gone bad (spoiled).

Now, cream cheese gets spoiled relatively easily and faster than many other cheeses and might lead to food poisoning if still consumed.

So I sent my plate back to the kitchen and informed the waitress that it smelled off and most certainly tasted moldy.

The waitress politely took the salmon bagel back and offered me another one. However, I truly believe that if you complain at a restaurant and the food/drink goes back to the kitchen, don’t except it or another thing back.

So, if I send anything back at a restaurant, you best believe that I don’t want it or anything else from that establishment.

Therefore, I cancelled the food order entirely and just finished the #latte I had already ordered prior to the food.

I told myself I’m never coming back here again then.

Thank God though for Mark, Bootlegger’s Manager. He came to our table to apologize and totally owned their error, admitting that the cream cheese was indeed spoiled.

Due to the masks that the staff wear while working, he told me that when they were preparing my salmon bagel, they had no way of telling (smelling) that the cream cheese was spoiled.

I absolutely admired his honesty and sound business ethics.

Though Mark also offered me a meat pie (on the house) to make up for their mistake, that to me was insignificant compared to him owning their mishap, instead of making the customer feel like they don’t know what they’re talking about (as is often the case when restaurant patrons complain).

Needless to say, I will be popping in at the new Bootlegger Coffee Company at Chartwell Corner again. 😃

The bathrooms here are always disgusting- I’ve complained about it before but it’s like there’s never anyone looking after them. They either have broken or dirty toilet seats or locks, that never seem to be cleaned.

The second thing that needs changing and I’ve heard so many people complain about is the coffee mugs - they either serve it in a glass that is way too hot to hold and doesn’t have a handle, or they serve it in a mug with a handle that you cannot even put a finger through to pick it up. I do not recommend coming here if you would like to do some work. I came here the first time at 4:30pm there was loadshedding at home and around 5pm there was drilling on the wall, I had a very important 6pm meeting. I gave this place another try, as I needed to get some work done, I arrived at 5:30 as their website says they close at 9pm. I was told they now close at 6pm. No where is this mentioned.
