Extremely disappointing experience at Lone Hawk Spur on the recent public holiday.
We were a group of six mothers, three teenagers, and six children. Upon being seated, we recognized the waitress from a prior visit during which we received poor service. Hoping it was an isolated incident, we gave her another chance. Unfortunately, our drink order was incorrect again. When we politely requested a different waiter, she became argumentative and walked off, leaving us unattended for an extended period.
After some time, we asked another passing waitress to call a manager. We witnessed her approach Jakobus, who was at the coffee bar, but he ignored her and walked into the kitchen. Upon returning, I addressed him politely, requesting a new waiter. He cut me off abruptly and said “No.” I expressed surprise at his tone, to which he responded that they were short-staffed until 10:00 AM. His dismissive attitude and refusal to assist were shocking and unacceptable.
Another mother reiterated our request, only to be met with the same condescending tone. When I asked if he had received management training or knew how to deal with a customer complaint, he turned away, continued working at the coffee station, and muttered an obscenity within earshot. This behavior is beyond unprofessional.
A kitchen manager later stepped in and was helpful and courteous. At this point, we noted it was 9:50 AM—just 10 minutes before shift change. Had our request been handled with basic courtesy, we could have waited. The issue was not the short staffing—it was the complete disregard for customer service, the rude behavior, and the lack of accountability.
Manager Stefan eventually arrived, took our details, and apologized. He followed up the next morning, again apologizing but also offering excuses. While we appreciate the apology, we must stress that the core issue was not understaffing, but unacceptable conduct by Jakobus and a repeat of poor service.
This experience has left us deeply dissatisfied. We will not be recommending Lone Hawk Spur to others and will think twice before returning. Jakobus, in particular, requires urgent training in management, customer interaction, and...
Read moreLone Halk Spur at Glen fair is by far the worst Spur you can go to and it gives Spur the worst name!!! We have been there a few times as its just down the road from our house but every single time its been such a disappointment and we say every time is our last and now that we know there is a much better Spur a few km away at the Sun Casino we will definitely never go there again!!! The service is extremely slow, portions are much smaller than at any other spur as well as the food doesnt taste like spur food at all! Plus they are out of drafts every single time we have every been there. Last time I had calamari and it gave me food poisoning and the friends with us said their steak also tasted strange. We decided to go one last time today and wow what disappointment again! I ordered my steak medium to well done as im pregnant and my doctor told me my steak must be properly cooked, I explained this to the waitress. My husband ordered a much larger steak medium rare. When our food came it was quickly placed on the table and the waitress disappeared for 45min. This would make sense if they were busy but we deliberately went there after the lunch rush when they were not very busy at all. The biggest problem was that my steak was absolutely rare, my husbands steak was medium-well and both our steaks were extremely tough and had no flavor or seasoning. I ordered the avo and Roqueford sauce for my steak (the avo was underripe and I am sure the sauce is a salad dressing)We had such a small amount of onion rings and chips that it seemed like our portion had actually been shared...not to mention the fact that the chips were still raw...we called a waiter and explained the situation, he said he would find our server but she never showed up until after 45min and noone else came to help us. So we landed up paying and leaving very unsatisfied and disappointed for the umpteenth time! There is a Spur only a few km away at the sun casino.... I suggest you give Lone Hawk and absolute miss and go to that one as this Spur really gives...
Read moreCame to spur after not having tried it in so many years and boy did we pick the worst one . Food was as expected , a bit cold to arrive but the taste was there . Value for money is definitely a thing of the past but that’s besides the point . Probably should have realised things weren’t going to end well when half the drinks menu was available at lunch time on a random Tuesday afternoon. Initially our waiter Raymond was friendly and attentive but that was short lived . However I suspect the waiters are just going off the lack luster energy given off by their managers - there were 3-4 circling the restaurant but still issues were cropping up at our table and the few occupied tables around us . After ordering and receiving starters it was almost impossible to get a waiters attention after that . And then when the bill came it had to be sent back twice for correction as we were charged for things we requested and weren’t on the menu as well as other things we requested and we simply never received coz service is non existent. Such a disappointment. But a good reminder why it’s been years since going to a spur . As much as the ribs and wings were fun they weren’t good enough to make we want to deal with the terrible...
