How dissapointed can one person be? I love ocean basket but this is the WORST of all the ocean baskets that i have EVER visited.
Upon arrival we were not sanitized or asked to complete the log book. I would have done this myself but the sanitizer was missing from the holder and no pen to sign in.
We walked into the restaurant and had to look for someone to seat us. The manager sat there by his laptop and called a waiter giving her a handsignal to seat us.
Our waiter finally came and said they are only three waiters on duty he then apologised that we waited almost 20min just for menus. I asked if this was going to be an issue the whole night on? He assured us it would not be... Well it definetely was.
Our bread rolls were stale and so hard. We sat outside and there were no lights anywhere, we litetally sat with the torches on our cellphones. I asked our waiter for a lamp or something, he said that he will light something, that never happened. 3 The seafood platter was good - no complaints but the sushi was terrible, i cannot even describe it... Absolutely awfull, the rice was like rubber. The ginger was dry and the soya was like someone poured salt into it. The sushi was so dry and tasteless... Ugh it was really bad. We had to ask 3 times for an ash tray, never got one. We asked for all the food to served together, our sushi came 35minutes after the platter. All our sushi was not on the platters and we checked what we got and compared it to the platter on the menu. We were pieces short. We told our waiter and he informed the kitchen. Our waiter returned asking me to get out of my seat and go see the manager!!!!!! I told the waiter he must be joking. I asked the waiter why i should see the manager? The waiter advised that they dont believe him that the pieces were short so we have to go testify to that... I almost fell out of my chair. I asked the waiter to please tell the manager we would like to speak to him. We asked three times and the manager just never showed up. We were so disgusted we paid the bill and just left...

Read moreI visited Ocean Basket yesterday evening (27/10/2025) with my husband and our daughter to celebrate my birthday. We were really looking forward to a lovely family dinner, and while the food was absolutely delicious and the manager as well as the rest of the staff were friendly and welcoming, I was very disappointed by the service we received from our waitress, Audrey.
From the start, her attitude was quite unpleasant. She seemed irritated when I wanted to make a small change to my order, and throughout the evening, she showed visible frustration and a lack of warmth. When my husband mentioned that it was my birthday and asked if there was anything special the restaurant does, she replied, “No, we’re not going to do anything for your birthday.” She later returned and said she was “just kidding,” and brought me some ice cream, but then added, “The staff is not going to sing for you.”
I found that very rude and disheartening — especially because this was meant to be a joyful birthday dinner with my family. The attitude spoiled what could have been a wonderful evening.

Read moreOrdered the platter of R585.00 yesterday morning @ 10:15 for 11:30 pick up. Johan who answered the phone was not very willing to assist at first. Told me they are only opening at 11:00. When I asked why he answered the phone then and why cant I place my order in the meantime he then reluctantly took the order. On our way to pick up a very friendly person Freddie called that our order will only be ready at 12 as the kitchen was experiencing some challenges. We did not have a problem with this. I arrived at the shop at 11:50 to check on our order. Freddie again very friendly and polite asked me to have a seat while he checks with the kitchen. A very rude and loud person who was doing the cooking started screaming and shouting at him. I then got upset about the way he was treating Freddie and said that I did not appreciate his tone and manner and that this behaviour is definitely not good for any business in these trying times. By the way Johan was standing by with his back to us all the time not saying a word. And i was not chasing anybody and was happy to wait for my order. So no reason for the gut in the kitchen to go off like that. By the way our order was then obly ready at 12:15! Quality of food was good. Lemon butter sauce not nice and tasty as always.
