Absolutely shocking experience at both the top and bottom coffee shops. First enquired about dairy free options to eat, then ordered a red cuppucino with Almond milk. After feeling a bit ill after drinking it, and looking at the brown, creamy coloured drink very different to a 'normal' red cappuccino, we enquired about the drink having dairy in it. It ended up being a powdered sachet drink with both skim milk and whey powder as primary ingredients.
A bit later in the afternoon, my partner went to order me a Butternut, avo and feta wrap, but stated very clearly that there must be no dairy in the meal at all, naming the feta and the dressings.
We were served with a wrap minus the feta, but with mayonnaise in the wrap and the salad and wrap smothered in a creamy dressing.
Not wanting to make a scene, he went back to say that he will eat that meal and they must please make another meal with no feta, no mayonnaise and no dressing, that I am allergic to dairy and egg. After waiting approximately 30 minutes, we received another wrap, without the Mayo or salad dressing, but FULL of feta cheese. Obviously upset at this, we pointed it out, to the waitress who didn't fully understand, and then the owner, who was gracious enough to say they'll make ANOTHER one (3rd time lucky?!) And that it is on the house.
This 3rd wrap was done in record time (about 5 minutes) and we asked if my partner can then get the wrap with the feta in, as it is the full meal and a lot more fresh. They scrambled around in the back and came back to say they had already discarded the wrap (????)
We returned to the hospital ward, irritated and hungry, and I saw how empty and half the size my 'new' wrap was. I realized what had been done, and opened the wrap, to confirm with big pieces of feta everywhere inside. They had simply removed the feta and mushed the rest all back together, and then proceeded to lie to someone who had stated that they are allergic to dairy.
When we returned to the coffee shop, the owner had left, and the lady in charge was totally incompetent and she simply said they didn't have any more butternut or avo so they just removed the feta. The fact that they had attempted to serve a meal with an allergen in, knowingly...
Disgusted doesn't even begin to describe how I...
Read moreThe Coffee Cafe is conveniently located at the southern (Upper Bourke Street) entrance of the Zuid Afrikaans Private Hospital, entrance to the consulting rooms and Radiology Unit in Bourke Street, Pretoria CBD. This pleasant Cafe is easily accessible from the parking lot, especially as it is adjacent to a large number of bays for persons with disabilities. One is greeted by a bevy of smiles welcoming one into the surprisingly spacious lower or upper level seating area, while covered, outdoor patio seating area is also provided. The Coffee Cafe should not be confused with Tribeca Cafe, although they might very well make use of products marketed by the Tribeca Coffee Company, a wholesaler specializing in their brand of roasted coffee and related products. Really enjoyed great coffee and a tasty 3 egg omlette, stuffed almost to overflowing with a generous portion of diced peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Great that they also offered the option of almond milk and rye bread! This delightful cafe offers safe parking on the premises, and is highly recommended if you are visiting the hospital - especially if you need to wait for some reason, or just drop by if you want to enjoy a good...
Read moreThe food was exceptional, and we encountered no issues with its quality or taste.
However, there was a concern regarding the operating hours. The sliding door displays the closing time as 19:45. At 18:20, we entered the café to order food for my father, who is currently hospitalized. Upon attempting to place our order, the staff member informed us that the café was closed, explaining that they shut down the kitchen one hour before the listed closing time to allow staff adequate time for cleanup. While this practice is completely understandable, it was not reflected in the posted hours.
Additionally, the staff member mentioned, “This is the last time we are doing this,” implying that serving food at 18:20 was an exception. Her demeanor also appeared notably irritated, as she shook her head, giving the impression that serving us was a significant inconvenience.
To prevent future misunderstandings and improve customer experience, it might be helpful for the café to adjust the displayed hours to reflect the actual kitchen...
