Fig Tree Restaurant — Restaurant in KwaDukuza Local Municipality

I have had many memorable meals at the Fig Tree, and must say that their food and service is absolutely fantastic. However at the end of last month my daughter, son-in-law and 2 year old grandson visited there for lunch, when my grandson, whilst playing near the child's play area, was bitten by a Stiletto Adder that had made its residence just under the wooden decking. 8 days in hospital and almost the loss of his toes/foot, timeously saved by the fantastic doctors at your local Ballito hospital. To date nothing has been done to close up that area where the snake crawled under. They advertise "Child Friendly" - I think not. The manager of the restaurant has kept in contact with us, but no word from senior management of the Estate, whom I would have thought this incident serious enough to make comment on, or contact us. I somehow don't think that they are even aware of the tragedy to my grandson. A letter, phone call or visit to the hospital in those 8 days would have been nice. Clearly their interests lie elsewhere.

Curries... what a superb culinary treat especially at the onset of winter as we Free Staters know it!! Tantalisingly different from the succulent lamb, tender chicken, creamy fish, juicy beef right through to the spicy vegetable curry we found it difficult to decide which was the best. All the accoutrements; poppadums, salsas, spicy lemons, rotis salads and the spring rolls and samoosas were such perfect appetizers! Then, one can scarcely do justice to the softest, ever so lightly sweet malva pudding and creamy custard, the pavlova with berries and cream, and ginger sponge cakes... too many to mention... I order weekly from Fig Tree and was always satisfied. Earlier this week I place an order for Rump steak and vegetables as we love the way they prepare it. With horror we realised that this food was completely rotten. It was our supper and already late at night so there was no way we could eat it. The next day I phoned and spoke to a male person (I suppose the manager) and let him know that people will get sick from consuming food like that. He took my number and apparently would investigate.
