Sjoe where do I begin. Firstly 5 stars is not enough. I would give 7 stars if I could.

This was genuinely the most authentic and I want to say borderline exotic meals I have ever had. It was so so divine that I dreamt of curry last night, and it was the first thing on my mind this morning.

We went out with my husband's boss and his wife for her birthday... A long with my 7 month old daughter. And the owners gave us a nice corner spot to make it convenient and comfortable for us. The host was amazing, she has the biggest smile on her face, and really is passionate about advising what dishes are good and what each dishes entail. She wears her heart on her sleeve. The waiteon was also so quick and efficient, he memorized all the meals and drinks and starters without even writing it down and it was like witnessing a superpower.

I ordered myself a chicken Tikka masala, and my husband ordered (I can't remember the name) but it was the spinach creamy curry with lamb. Let's just say his meal was the best thing my taste buds have ever experienced, and I will be back to only eat that. Actually thinking about it, I think the dish was a lamb saag.

I also had their saffron home made ice cream to end the night off, and it was truly delicious. Thank you for a awesome experience.

Absolutely no cons what so ever, perhaps the price, but one would understand you purely paying for what...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars

WELL DONE, GATE OF INDIA!

Last night, I had the pleasure of dining at Gate of India in Gillitts, and it was nothing short of a culinary voyage to the heart of India. The ambiance is beautiful and authentic, giving me a real feel of being in a restaurant in India. As for the service, it is unparalleled. Rashu and her team are not just attentive; they are genuinely friendly, checking up on us and making sure our dining experience was nothing short of perfect.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE FOOD — nothing short of PREFECTION! The dishes were not just tasty; they were downright unreal. Of course, I had to have the dish everyone was raving about – the butter chicken – and OMG – what is God’s name was that deliciousness. Now, I recommend you have the chilli garlic naan with it…yummy!! All their chefs are from India as well as their spices. So get ready for a treat!

Gate of India isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a portal to the authentic tastes and experiences of India. From the warm service to the unreal flavours and impeccable presentation, every aspect of the dining experience is carefully curated to leave a lasting impression.

If you’re in Gillitts and craving an authentic journey through Indian cuisine, Gate of India is a must-visit. It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience. Go to 15 Old Main Rd, Gillitts and taste it...

Restaurant is cozy and family friendly. Reception was five star. We were received by an effervescent lady named Rashu who welcomed us. She identified a table and area to accommodate one of my guests who is 86 yrs old. The chicken Tikka, lamb badami, prawn curry, vegetable dishes and the variety of Naan were all individually prepared. There is no standard gravy or base that the different dishes are mixed in. Each meal was individually prepared and served fresh and hot. Portions were large and value for money. Naan breads were a breath of fresh air. As for the Bombay Crush, l leave you in limbo meaning you cannot visit this authentic North Indian restaurant without enjoying a Bombay Crush. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with soft lighting and excellent background music comprising of popular Bollywood tunes ( all instrumental). Is there anything l left out? Oh! YES, The overall hygiene and cleanliness including the restrooms is worthy of commendation. For authentic North Indian food in KZN, this restaurant leads and the Pakistani outlets are rip offs of North Indian delicacies- definitely recommend this restaurant be on your "restaurants to eat at" list! Compliments to Rashu, her soulmate and staff. Time to spread your wings! Jay...

For the average non-regular curry consumer, their food is probably ok, but for a seasoned eastern cuisine diner, it’s far below par. The Lamb Vindaloo tasted more Durban style than sub-continental cuisine. It lacked fiery sting (even though had “extra hot”) and didn’t fulfill the spice flavours I expected. The rice portion that accompanied the curry, was insultingly small - probably enough for a 4 year old - and unseasoned! There was not even a grain of salt added to the cooking of the rice 🤯. You have to purchase another portion of bland rice, or naan, if you care to satisfy your hunger. Lastly, there is no salad delivered with the meal! Who serves curry and rice without a bit of sambals or carrot salad? Nobody! You are again requested to purchase an entire plate of carrot salad for R35. Too many money grabbing gimmicks which don’t justify the quality of the food. The naan was fresh and pleasant. Please do better. Thank you.
