Do Not Have Your Wedding Here
Our experience at Casalinga was deeply disappointing and far from what was promised. We expected a memorable and joyous celebration, but instead, encountered numerous issues that marred our special day.
Firstly, the caipirinhas served during the event were not what was agreed upon. The quality was far below the promised standard, and I have photographic evidence to prove this.
Additionally: • There were three other events happening simultaneously, which caused constant disruptions. The music from these events was so loud that our DJ had to turn up our volume excessively. Worse, music from another event even played over my husband’s speech—a moment that should have been sacred and meaningful. • The fillets we requested were served well-done instead of to specification, and many of our guests complained about the overcooked food. • Two large roaches were spotted on the dance floor—an alarming hygiene issue. • The lights and plugs in the honeymoon suite and other rooms were turned off at midnight, causing major inconvenience for our guests. • We were accused of missing chairs and breaking a glass, despite the venue providing no evidence. This has jeopardized our deposit with the events company, which is incredibly frustrating. • We were rushed to clear out our belongings before 8:00 AM, even though our event setup began only an hour before the ceremony.
What made this experience even worse was the apparent lack of care or organization from the venue. Hosting multiple large events on the same day clearly caused attention to detail to suffer, leaving us feeling overlooked. Guests from other events encroached upon our reserved space, which was disheartening and unacceptable.
On top of all this, dealing with the venue’s staff was a nightmare. There was no single point of contact, and we were constantly redirected between different people. This unprofessional approach caused unnecessary stress. One particularly upsetting incident was when a package we had delivered was initially declared missing, only for us to later learn it had been accepted by someone else at the venue without proper communication.
Casalinga completely failed to meet the standards we expected for such an important occasion. If we had known the reality of their operations, we would have chosen a different venue.
I strongly advise anyone considering this venue for their wedding or event to...
Read moreWe visited Casalinga on 28 January as a group of 8 for lunch. This was my 3rd visit with the 1st visit last year for a wedding and the 2nd for the Sunday lunch.
The wedding on our 1st visit was amazing, as was the food. The trio of starters, the main courses and the dessert buffet were outstanding but one must remember that the wedding couple were able to taste and select all the meal items.
We decided to go back a few months later for the Sunday lunch which is R340 per person and includes a starter, main course and dessert plus bread basket and tea / coffee. The list of items on the menu, from which one can choose, provided a decent selection and variety. We found the starter portions to be small and the only steak dish was tough and not very tasty. Otherwise the meal was enjoyable and the venue is serene with a lovely country atmosphere.
We then returned on 28 January for lunch with visiting family. We had a great table location and the waiters were very attentive and professional. The menu had changed considerably from the previous visit and the choice was somewhat limiting. Most of us opted for either the calamari, fig or Gnocchi starter. This was not the previous 4 cheese gnocchi but a more Mediterranean version. None of these starters were enjoyed by our party and the calamari was actually horrid. We then ordered mains and, once again, the selection was limiting. We mainly ordered the lamb shank and I shared a lamb shank dish and the vegetarian Lasagna with my fiance. The lamb shank was very ordinary and slightly dry. the Lasagna was also very average. The desserts were excellent and seem to be the strong point of this restaurant.
To sum up, great venue and excellent staff but the limited choice of meals and the very average main courses and below average starters mean that we will not be visiting Casalinga again other than for an event such as a wedding. R340 is not cheap for what we received and one would expect a much higher standard of food with...
